Because they were forced into selling a player due to lack of first team exposure and are reminded about it nearly everyday by the networks.

Chelsea didn't really have a choice. He had 6 months left on his deal and could then walk away for free. Tariq didn't see a route into the first team and backed himself as a player to go and play football.

I don't think Chelsea are 'forced' into anything. If Brighton weren't forced into anything by Leeds, why would Chelsea be forced into anything by Brighton.

I think it's more likely Brighton enquired about the lad and Chelsea thought you know what he's not getting anywhere near our first team we might as well let him go to Brighton if he wants to go.

They had their hands forced a little by the fact that Lamptey was a free agent 5 months later and wasn't signing a new deal because he wasn't getting first team action. With White, we still had 2 years plus an extra year option.

I still don't think Chelsea look at it like they have egg on their faces. Having spent £200m or whatever, i don't think Abramovich is sat around pissed off that his 3rd or 4th choice right back went to Brighton for £3m.

Chelsea made Lamptey 3 new contract offers, one of which was more than we were offering. He refused and with just 6 months remaining on his current deal, they reluctantly sold him to us for £3m.

They really wanted to keep him.

That’s literally what I’ve just said, tell Junior that 😄

Really? With Bayern apparently interested, don't you think his value, since joining us has gone through the roof. Don't forget the Chelsea model has been to sweep up all promising youngsters and sell them on for profit if they don't get near the first team.

I think they'll be quite happy with the sell-on clause included in the deal (as per Naylor and The Athletic). If we do end up losing him to Bayern for £25m Chelsea will have walked away with a fair chunk more than £5m for a player that they would've lost for free if we hadn't come in.

So you're saying a business would be quite happy developing any asset for 12 years, I think he joined at 7. Sell that asset to someone else who hypothetically within 6 months could sell said asset on for x6 in the original price?

If the alternative was that they'd lose him for free. Yes. Especially, if they were to make significant money from the second sale for 6 X the original price.

This one is feeling more and more out of reach.

I've read all sorts in the media (obviously no idea if any of it is true).
That Spurs want his wages covered 100% at £64k a week, a loan fee of £5m, that Celtic / Alax / Hertha Berlin / Leeds / Hoffenheim / RB Leipzig / Southampton are all interested.

Would have been quite something to see this lad on the other wing to Lamptey, if only for a season.

We’re going to go with what we have aren’t we. And that will get is relegated in my opinion. Not least because we simply don’t have the depth to cope with this type of season.

Not necessarily. I think the football league transfer deadline on October 16th is more relevant to us than the deadline on Monday.
