Adding to his (Magoffin) first innings haul of five wickets, he continued to torment the Northants batsmen with a nagging line and length that allowed little room for error. After the ECB pitch inspector had watched proceedings from afar on Monday, he deemed the surface perfectly adequate on the back of a brief appraisal before play - but Northants proceeded to make it look like a minefield. Rob Newton gave the Australian his seventh of the match and Kyle Coetzer followed in similar fashion next over.

OK it may well be a result pitch but Sussex batted to 400 and a number of players got decent scores. Northants won the toss and one would assume had the best of conditions. Their demise in such a manner is really down to them.

I was at the ground yesterday and whilst the ball did beat the bat, this was not on occasions and when the ball got older it seemed much easier to bat. It was far from unplayable.
