It is very hard for them irrespective of his profession but if he wasnt a footballer in the limelight they wouldnt read about him now and the case wouldnt have made so many headlines at the time of the crash..

I'm not entirely sure that if I was to get pissed, attempt to drive home, kill 2 young boys and serve time in prison my empolyers would re-employ me.

He made a mistake. It could have been the first time, it could have been the first of many.
I am sure there are a proportion of drink drivers who will never drink drive again. That could have been the first time he risked it and paid the (almost) ultimate consequences (killing himself as well). There are probably those who will drink drive until they are caught out. There are those who will drink drive and never get found out; ad finitum.
Would you employ a convicted drink driver who killed someone?

I fell into the bracket of one that ignored the DD law but never got convicted but 3 people in my family did and I thought that is too close so packed up about 20 years ago and haven't done it since. The thought that I might have an accident and kill somebody never came into the reckoning as like most DD drivers I considered wrongly that I was a good driver whether having had drink or not. Being a publican I would probably say no to the question of employing such a person because I would consider the handling of alcohol all the time too much of a temptation. What I would do as a football manager or owner is probably different, I think that I might but would need to meet and talk to the man first before deciding.
