(Assuming he signs) how about we actually watch him for a bit before we dismiss him as an 'underwhelming' addition to the squad? Surely under tighter financial regulations clubs SHOULD be sourcing these rough diamonds in the hope they will develop into something special. Do we want to be splashing all our budget on some cash-sucking, ex-PL show pony whose already fleeced another club of millions of quid - and yes, underwhelmed. Aussie lad is hardly playing Sunday League football is he? Sounds a good prospect and potentially a shrewd bit of business too.

Bridcutt and Ince were fairly underwhelming signings too. A lot of people are far too quick to judge sometimes.

Of course they were underwhelming, it's difficult to get overly excited about signing a player who has never done anything noteworthy in their career, it's not to say people won't be excited by these players but every fan enjoys seeing their club sign an established player. Of course it doesn't always work out that way,for example we were mostly underwhelmed by Ince signing and overwhelmed by CMS signing, if ya get my drift.
There's nothing wrong with adding these players to the team but it would be nice to see maybe 1 marquee signing.

We win some and lose some that what the Accadamy is all about we may produce one or two good players a year and a Brillant star every Two or three years.thats football! But now we got the facilities to try and attract better youngsters who may have been swollewd up by the big boys. Exciting times ahead:O

Hi guys,

I'm a Brisbane Roar supporter I just thought I would share a couple of things about Brattan. In the opinion of most of our supporters he is a very good player and has really been key for us this season playing as a deep lying playmaker. He reads the game excellently and has probably been the standout no. 6 in the whole competition this season. He has a fantastic passing ability and our national team coach who coached him in the past said that he had one of the best passing abilities in the league. He didn't get much game time previous to this season as there was another defensive midfielder who was performing extremely well in his position and Brattan didn't get much of a run until he was sold mid-season in the 2012/13 season.

During the season he bagged 3 goals and 3 assists with 83% passing accuracy playing in a deep position. He has been the driving force of our most successful campaign and we will be sad to see him go but rest assured that he is a quality player who will add a lot to your team if he signs.

Here are a couple of videos which show off his passing ability, goals and assists:

I was just reading the Guardian article that talks about the 12/13 accounts. Our wages to income ratio stood at 90%. Since then we have a better shirt sponsorship, and a better catering deal whilst our budget is roughly the same (not to mention bigger player sales).

I don't want to be like everyone else who goes around throwing silly money everywhere. We have now completed our infrastructure so lets find a happy sustainable way of competing year in and year out at the top of this league and one day our time will come.

If finding that happy and sustainable place means we have to rely on finding players like Ince, March, Calderon, Bridcutt. Then I'm happy with that. Lets hope Batten is another one if he comes here.

Thanks for posting, will be nice to have a talented passer who looks forward in the middle of the park.

A couple of the comments from posters on an Aussie forum I post on in regards to Brattan.

Brattan is class one the best passers in the league.

That cracker of a goal he scored against us in the 90th min that clinched the premiership for the roar. That was something!!!

Probably a good idea for him to test himself in Europe, there was talk of him making the Socceroos squad such was his form.

Handy player similar to a Mark Milligan, not as good of course,
good luck to him.

If those are examples of his passing game he looks like a Hyppia player and will suit a counter-attacking game.
