Just in case anyone is interested, I'm up at the sales in Newmarket today and have just been assured by a close friend of Mike de Kock that Eagle Mountain will definitely be going to the Breeders' Cup Turf later this month. He has been cut to 8-1 from 10-1 with Paddy Power, but given that:
1. he finished second in the Derby last year
2. he will be a fresh horse
3. de Kock has a record of improving horses again and again
4. Soldier Of Fortune will hate the ground
5. Duke Of Marmalade looked cooked for the season at Longchamp and
6. the Turf often cuts up to a handful of serious runners
my humble view would be that 8-1 is still a knocking each-way price.
Don't go mad, though. There's a credit crunch on.
