Shocked that Lua Lua is near their first team TBH...

Hopefully he just asked to go along as a spectator. He did say he was a United fan didn't he?

He is not playing!!

He has just replied to me on twitter saying he isn't!

Could be good news for us??

Just saw this. I think that a move to us would be very unlikely if he'd had an input tonight, as it'd mean that Hughton clearly rates him and thinks he can do some sort of job in the Premiership.

'Tis a good start, i guess.

Saw my nephew last night who just shrugged when he met me at the door. I then asked to see the text from his mate and it was there. Was tempted to send reply, but thought what's the point as his mate's knowledge seems rather questionable to say the least.

Seems to me that Lua Lua is either Hughton's 25th or 26th pick. Either way the boy needs to smell the roses and move on. He has been there 5 odd years and is still an uncertain squad pick let alone a first teamer. He should find another club before his season is wasted.

We are not going to know unless Newcastle make a couple of signings to push Lua Lua out of the picture as with Bellamy and City or until the squads are submitted on the 1st September.

What game do you watch, every week on here it seems to be a different one to the game most people see.

Smith was our most prominent midfielder yesterday, maybe a tad lightweight, but a decent player.

Agreed. Smith was great against Rochdale, and only came off because of the tactical switch following Greer's aberration.

Personally, if we signed Lua Lua, I would not have Smith as a first choice starter, but I would use him as back-up for Sparrow/Bennett/Lua Lua in the instance that any one of them gets injured/suspended. Smith clearly has the ability to play anywhere across the midfield.

Agree too...

Smith played well again, and is the ONLY reason we are being patient re Lua Lua...

Often last year Lua Lua was used to menace defences with his pace, but would burn himself out a little, this is where Smith would come on and replace him in my opinion, or start Smith and then bring Lua Lua on for the remaining 20 mins. It is difficult for defenders to defend his pace.

Maybe one day, but I am losing hope of him returning I am afraid.

SSN just reported that Marseille have accepted an 8 million pound bid from Wolfsburg for Hatem Ben Arfa.

If Ben Arfa goes there instead of Newcastle, I dont think Lua Lua will be going anywhere.

Still think there is a fair chance. Chris Hughton said weeks ago that Lua-Lua wouldnt be going anywhere until the very end of August anyway.

Dont give up on him yet.

Still think we will sign him at the end of August.

When asked if there was any more news about LuaLua, Andy Naylor said:

'Nothing more than we have consistently stated recently - that he will probably be an Albion player by August 31. '

Might be a good sign?

Think NUFC need to sign a winger before it will happen... if not their first target (apparently) then their next one...

Oh dear, hanging your hopes on Andy Naylor's 'inside knowledge' of the Albion. He is like any other fan that pays attention to the club he only knows what he is told and the rest is speculation.

Gus doesn't reveal much about signings and Naylor's knowledge of the rest of the club is poor as he only really cares about signings to sell newspapers
