Could Lua Lua do a job up front as a target man. I know he dosen't have the height but his touch, hold up play and pace is very good. Could this be a temporary fix?

Just a thought.

I'd rather have Buckley up front and LuaLua on the wing

Yep but I am thinking about holding up play, not sure Buckley can do that as well. He is more touch and go.

My main criticism with lualua on tuesday was that he seemed to not know what to do when he gets in the box. It might have been a one off, and he might work up front, but I'm not sure.

The point of a target man is so he can HEAD balls coming into him either in the goal or to team mates, hold up the ball etc.

Can LuaLua do that? Obviously not

The only temporary fix is Buckley with lua lua cover his position, the problem with this is it will be a very temporary both Lua Lua and Buckley are often sidelined with injuries it wouldn't be a fix for say the season but could be used for the next couple of games whilst we get a striker in and introduce him to our style of play

I don't think either of them would work as a striker, there is a reason they have played as wingers the vast majority of their professional careers. This board seems to have turned in to a bunch of Mark McGhee's lately with the desire to put players out of position. As a one off in an emergency maybe they could play up front but we still have CMS, Adgestein and Barnes who are far more accomplished lone strikers than Buckley or Lua Lua will ever be.

As I've said before, it works for Jnr Bobkin when he's playing FiFA. Kaz scores hat-tricks all over the place, so it must be a good idea

Why do people constantly think this? A target man (and the type Poyet is looking for) is there to be strong, hold up play and bring others into it... their most important attributes must be strength, close control, first touch and positional ability. Heading is secondary, and a nice to have - but not imperative.

I must be the only Albion fan who is not convinced that Agdestein is the instant answer to all our attacking problems.

I agree he has potential and I can see us pushing him in early but if we do I think it will stop him in his tracks progress-wise. From all I've seen so far he has the ability to be busy and he is quick but I haven't seen him tower above defenders to head the ball on (or "in" for that matter) and I haven't seen him hold the ball up. He still looks lightweight for me and whilst he has scored some goals for the DS he hasn't shown anything that indicates he is ready to move up to the Championship NOW. Maybe next season after some exposure to the squad and some work in the gym but right now? Not for me. Sorry!

If I had to go for a temporary fix I would play Barnes as an out and out striker alongside CMS but that won't happen with Gus. Playing Buckley up front would be very tempting as a short term fix but his inability to play two consecutive games probably rules it out. Kaz playing as a Leon Knight-like mini striker? I actually quite like the idea but somehow I don't think it's what Gus had in mind. Wouldn't be entirely surprised to see Barker making the bench but for now I think it will be play as we are with Buckley's pace to make the difference from the wing

I don't think it would work in the style we play, Gus wants his CF to be a pivot bringing others into play, holding the ball up and linking with the wide players and attacking midfield players. Both Buckley and LuaLua would prefer to be running into space beyond the defence than with their backs to goal. I would like to see us playing a much narrower 3 up front with either Barnes or CMS at CF with Buckley/LuaLua coming in off the flanks to provide support. At least until we can get someone who fits the bill a bit better...
