very early on in this saga I went into 'take it with a pinch of salt' mode. We have been told by various people who have sources they don't doubt, who other posters backed up, telling us he was signing for £1m over the weekend, £1.2m on the monday, £1.3m on the wednesday, £1.5m on the friday. He's failed a medical. He hasn't even taken a medical. It's on. It's off. Every statement from someone who has a top source, every statement backed up by at least one other poster.

Whatever happens, happens. I'm not gettign too invested either way. Even if the club come out and say 'we're not interested anymore' there's the Calderon factor. So I'm just gonna let this play out however it will and not put too much stock in what any poster says (but won't criticise anyone for positng their inside info, either).

As good as KLL is I don't buy this pay whatever it takes stance from some supporters. This is a player with a lot of promise but with no proven experience at a higher level. The price we pay should reflect that and the fact he only has a year to run on his contract.

Given the points above we are in a strong negotiating position which may be what is causing the delay. I would be happy if we took him on loan again and he signed on a free next summer.
Just don't see a loan would help Newcastle. At the end of the loan his contract with the Geordies would have expired and we would have him free.If they sold him now they would get a sizeable fee.

Presumably there would still be a fee due to his age.

Sylvain Marveaux just signed for Newcastle today....left sided winger...could this be what Newcastle have been waiting for before letting him go ?

Good spot Marshy... let's hope so, as long as KLL not crocked, of course...

I think you're right, Newcastle would be due compensation as he is under 23

How do these tribunals work? Is it purely based on the player's value or do other mitigating circumstances come into play? If so, and he did next season on-loan here, surely the fact that over the previous 2 and a half years we had given him pretty much 100% of his competitive football at a key stage in his career would lower the price set?

I think it depends how much Newcastle have invested in his development, time and money, but as you say he was with us a lot of the time so fee should be lower, let's hope so ?
