What a good Innings though, recently had a long time friend of Mrs Jakarta and also one of her Cousins diagnosed with terminal (12-24 months maximum) cancers at age of 59 and 51 respectively so shuffling off at 90 after a wonderful professional life seems OK to me.
And the star of Brighton Rock - the original expose of 'the other side' of Brighton. Not the 'naughty' seaside resort - but a world of festering slums, people who sell their own children and psychopathic gangsters.
People wax lyrical when a Legend leaves this mortal coil, but have to say Dickie was the first film STAR I ever met...it was during the filming of 'Brighton Rock' (1947) on the racecourse...my Dad was an 'extra' in the fight scene after 'Pinkie' got razored...(Still got the pic').
I was 8 years old and had to look after my new born sister in her pram whilst Dad got his two seconds of fame.
During a break in filming Dickie came to where I was standing and started chatting about my baby sister...he was a proper gentleman and spoke to me as a friend. Really mean this, rest in peace' Dickie...fine actor...well respected legend.
