Why not?
He has done more to deserve it than most of the wasters that get honoured. At least he didn't buy it.
This countries entire honours system, well the Lords part of it, is rotten to the core and has been for bloody years.
Come on Dave, you want a reforming government, good, lets honour people that do good deeds but only for the one generation that earned it!
No more hereditary titles, no more 14th Earl of Barnstonworth, the titles should all die with the holder, and I mean ALL.
If the 15th Earl wants a title he should get off his bone idle back side and do something to earn one.

I have no problem with them keeping their titles - just don't think that they should sit in any form of legislative body purely because they have one.

Why can't someone be born with a title? Seems like someone is jelous...

Sorry Don, for answering a question with a question, but I thought the honours system was to reward someone for doing something exceptional, something beyond the norm?
So why should you inherit a title you did nothing to earn.

Same here. Let them prance about on their estates, happily using their bulters as toast racks but for the love of god dont let any of their opinions affect the running of this country.

I was surprised by Micheal Howard though. There's something of the knight about him.....................

Prescott going to The House of lords? Is this the same Prescott who has lambasted The Upper chamber and waged Class War over the years? If he accepts he will be the biggest hypocrite ever. This surely goes against his socailist beliefs. Why does he not follow the example set by Tony Benn. On the other hand may be is going to The Lords as a Waiter or Lavatory Attendant/Cleaner.

A hypocrite he indeed is.

Mr Prescott, who stepped down as an MP after 37 years at the general election, is known for his plain speaking and combative approach to politics - he famously punched a man who hurled an egg at him during the 2001 general election campaign.

He once indicated he would not follow in the footsteps of other former Labour figures who have left the Commons and joined the Lords - like Lords Kinnock and Hattersley - reportedly saying: "I don't want to be a member of the House of Lords. I will not accept it."

exactly what i despise about new labour. a bloke like prescott accepting a peerage is a massive sell out of the working class that he claims to represent.

"the working class, can kiss my arse. i've got my ermine and my brass"

hypocrite
