Lopetegui left Wolves earlier today, and Gary O'Neill looks set to be appointed.

Does this count as the first Premier League managerial casualty of the season?

I'm slightly surprised that O'Neill is being appointed, but he was quite harshly treated at Plucky, and deserves another shot in the Premier League. I wonder if Graham Potter was considered at all.

O'Neill did what was required at Bournemouth eventually, but feel that may have been more down to some very good business in the January window rather than his tactical expertise. They did well against us twice though and were very unlucky not to get at least a point out of us.

He's going to have a big task on his hands to keep Wolves out of the scrap this season.

O'Neill will be a disaster. Did well at plucky, but was very much in his "comfort zone" there, already known and liked by the players. He will not wield much influence at Wolves, which is primarily why Lopetegui jacked it in when he wasn't getting what he wanted in terms of a budget. The owner gets a grateful 'happy to be there' yes-man in the dugout, the players get a 'Gary who ??'.

Bizarrely Plucky have a lot more £££s than Wolves and it was the money they were able to throw at the team in January that got them out of trouble. No such luxuries at Wolves.

Bournemouth under O'Neill at the Amex was a really tough game last season, I thought. I was impressed by them and incredibly relieved by the late goal. I wanted them to stay up after that. Contrast with the Fulham game. Total opposite emotion. Let’s hope he’s still getting settled when we play them in week 2.

Not sure about casualty as it's been rumbling on for months and i would imagine that their relegation odds have tumbled ? Could be interesting at Spuds should Kane go because where are the goals coming from (?) should that be the case Skippy might be going soon?

Consensus by Cherries fans (and seemingly the board) is they stayed up despite, rather than because of O’Neill.
Wolves will go down.

Related topic - I remember several recent high profile takeovers (at Everton, Southampton, Wolves off top of my head ) where supposedly it would transform the club to a different orbit. And it didn’t quite happen.

Their chairman released a public statement last week basically saying they can’t sign any players because of FFP and their January signings. They’ve had to sell etc - the manager said he was misled when he took the job about what was going to be available

Casualty not sure about that as well documented over the summer and as for the next one to go reckon Skippy at Spuds and only a two year deal which doesn't suggest much confidence in him, secondly should Kane leave where are Tottenham's goals coming from?

We'll never know, but i'd fancy Potter to do better there than O'Neil, especially if funds are tight and hes relying on developing academy players or pinching a few Chelsea youngsters on loan.

Wolves is a poison chalice at the moment - the entire club is a shambles. They re-signed Matt Doherty a couple of weeks and within a couple of days he was coming out publicly saying that behind the scenes the club were a mess. They are in trouble with FFP and have been dumping players where ever they can. I wouldn't be surprised to see them relegated.

O'Neil wasn't going to get another PL gig after being dumped by Bournemouth, but if he manages to keep Wolves up, after the job he did at Bournemouth, it will enormously enhance his profile.
