Just wondered whether any NSC camera buffs could point me in he right direction?

The requirement is essentially still a point and shoot so not so bothered about lots of manual options. Would like optical Zoom at least 12x or above and HD Video 720 or 1080. So far i am liking the look of the Nikon Coolpix S9100 and only reservation is the pop up flash and the fact that a mains charger is extra.

Thanks for any advice

You can't beat the Canon Ixus range for compact with zoom. I've had two models and both take great photos.

Panasonic Lumix range is very popular.

Also.

A friend of mine who is a bit of a photographer and works in a camera s tore in Toronto has just bought an Olympus Pen and says it's the best camera he's ever owned.

Forget that-the Pen is a little more than a point and shoot.

One important thing is to get into a shop and have a hold and feel of them, explore the menu's and how easy they are to use. Panasonic, Canon, Nikon, Sony will all be good camera's, but will all be different to use.

Super zoom is lovely if you use a tripod. If you are holding the camera in your hand at a passionate football match or the like and go to the 'end' of the zoom, it's likely you will get a fair bit of camera shake, with it's effects on the images
