obviously I'm no stranger to the pitfalls of getting a train from London to Brighton at around 5pm, especially on a Friday.

I'm planning to visit a friend in Reading tomorrow, is there an equally big commuter cohort?

If possible, I wanna avoid that and I can leave earlier.

30 mins, loads of trains from Paddington

Yeah, I found that bit out due to ever reliable NR website.

but is it congested?

I guess you may not know obviously.

On an unrelated note, ever been to the Clapham Picturehouse?

Don't know to be honest - but I wouldn't mind standing for 30 mins.

Yes - I'm been there loads of times.

Bigc,

Here's an idea that seems to have gone out of fashion
nationwide in the past 40 years....

----- use you brain.

25 minutes max. out of London...loads of satellite towns and
villages - what do you reckon?

I work in the Ritzy, cos thats where their phone room is!

It's best when I get a call about the Duke of Yorks cos I can talk about back home and slag off the Open House.

Do you want fish with that chip on your shoulder?

I assumed so but seeing as I have never experienced first hand what is the harm in asking?

well sorry - bit it's like asking if Piccadilly Circus will be clear of
pedestrians at 5pm on a weekday....

It's just a stupid question........

No links out of London are free of major congestion unless you
travel at 5am or after 8pm...fact of life.

I sometimes get the 13.33 from Victoria to Brighton Station and that isn't usually congested at all.

This is my daily commute. Old commuter trick - walk down platform 1 or 8 (no barriers) to the balcony at the far end of the station. When the train is announced you can go down the stairs and take your pick of the seats while the other plebs are still rushing down the platform from the concourse. :smokin:

p.s. If you end up in coach A at the front, this is the quiet carriage so turn your bloody phone off.

Used to work in Reading. At least once a week we'd get the phone call about half eight, quarter to nine, from somebody who'd managed to get about the only fast train from Paddington that didnt stop at Reading. First stop Bristol Temple Meads or something, about 200 miles down the line. Then you had to hope it was on time cos you only had about 20 minutes to scramble across the platforms to get one coming back the other way. They used to get into the office about half four to loud cheers :D
