First time in 6 years I haven't taken part, good luck to all doing it. I will get to experience the chaos in Brighton from the other side

Would love to join you but we'll be doing a different kind of cycling in Munich...

I have resolved to try and get fit and do this next year. How long does it take, roughly, at a sedate pace - and what are the toughest bits of the route (apart from the Beacon)?

Best of luck to all taking part. This Sunday I will be mostly watching the Bunburys at Chobham, my Father's Day 'treat'. Hoping it's a decent line-up.

You can literally spend the whole day doing it. I have started at 6.30 and crossed the finish line at 4.00 when doing it in a large group of mixed abilities. It is a lot more enjoyable if you stop quite a few times, I think there are 9 or 10 official stops and we usually had a quick pint in Turners Hill. You shouldn't need to do a lot of training either.

The hardest part after the Beacon is probably Turners Hill and there are a few other hills near the start that are more annoying than difficult because they are quite narrow and can't cope with so many cyclists so you inevitably end up having to walk up them.

Or you could do it in 2 hrs 50, with a couple of considerable hold ups early on.
Wifey really enjoys the event, so I was always one of the annoying to$$ers taking a charity fun ride far to seriously!.
Although the best bit was doing what is still my record speed, that being 49.2mph, coming down Coldean Lane (assuming that's the road from the beacon to the 27)

Has anyone ever done the London to Brighton off-road ride?

The next organised one is on Saturday 25 September 2010.

British Heart Foundation - View Event

The route:- NCN route 4 (Thames towpath) from London in a westerly direction to Weybridge. From Weybridge the route then heads south along the River Wey to Shalford, 2 miles to the south of Guildford. At this point the route links up with the Downslink (disused railway path between Shalford and Shoreham). From Shoreham you head in an easterly direction for the last few miles to Brighton.
