Don't do a lap of honour if you win.

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
My friend ran it a couple of years ago.

Complete at least one half marathon beforehand (not right beforehand ;) )

Lots of vaseline for the crotch and the nipples.

Plenty of fluid for the run up to the race and cut down on anything salty.

Yep, I'm doing it, and similarly bricking it myself. In the words of smokey and the bandit "We've got a long way to go, and a short time to get there, we're gonna do what they said can't be done"

Not too worried about the 1st half (born and raised in SE london so know the course like the back of my hand), nor the last 4 miles (tower bridge to the finish, landmarks should be able to get me through) however the thought of traipsing round docklands fills me with dread, and plus that's where the "wall" kicks in!

I'm doing it this year. I've been doing the training but that magazine really brings it home how hard it's going to be. I, like you, am now starting to "brick it"!

as 10cc say, not in hove
i'm doing it too, if my ankle holds out.

tips:

tape your nips with micropore, forget vaseline it washes away. a little cross of micropore tape will DEFINITELY work

vaseline under your arms and around your shorts, in fact anywhere that rubs against your shirt.

get a decent pair of shoes in about 2 weeks time

stop at every drink station

STRICTLY pace yourself

and it isn't that tough if you've followed the above!

happy running

what sort of time are you all aiming for?

I did the Brighton half marathon in 1 hour 47 so I think i'll be aiming for about 4 hours. Although running beyond 15 miles will be a whole new ball game!
