Not interested in it, and anyway, why not hold it in a city that would benefit more from 'upping its profile' - London is one of the worlds most famous cities without having the olympics again.

I thought the inspections started tomorrow - but I think it would be a great thing for London and for the UK in general. It would certianly help put a lot of money into a pretty grim area in East London.

The lack of support in London is partly a result of the usual London spirit of a complete lack of enthusiasm about anything - after all it may involve some traffic disruption in seven years time and anything that may delay the commute by five minutes cannot be tolerated.

It is about time the UK held another major sporting event.

Right idea ..wrong area .. it should have been held down at docklands .. still major areas of land and could easily be developed ..hope they do get it because it would be good for the nation .. as long as labour dont hijack it !!

Football venues will host football events. The biggest outside the World Cup.

Other events will be national wide.

It will be the biggest ever local Investment in local sporting facilities.

My local hospital in Hackney (2nd most deprived area in the Country) the Homerton will be the Olympic Hospital, investment in facilities will follow.


Believe or not London does have one if not the best public transport system in the world. In size and in concentration it dwarf's New York, Paris and Madrid.

The Olympic Zone will have 10 different lines running through, greater than most other cities in the world total railway nerwork .

308 stations in the UK will be able to deliver passengers directly into the Zone.

What is the Government for, if it isn't about investing into our culture.

I don't know any Londoners who don't want the games. Often the people who are interviewed are commuters from outside.
Yes it doesn't help the Governmnet saying Londoners should pay more. Especially since Londoners already pay more taxes than anyone else.

But the Lee Valley is a dump. It needs investmnet, this is a one off opportunity to turn the area around and turn the axis of London away from west London.

Plus, 12,000 jobs will be created.

80 hectates of land alone will be released by burying the greatest concentration of power lines in the country.

London will have an Olympic size swimming pool. Isn't it a disgrace that our capital city don't have one! Whilst for French cities it is the norm.

We will have state of the art Cycling facilities, BMX, Basket ball.

For cricket lovers Lords will be used.

50% of All accomodation built for the games will go to local residents/students.

Whatever the pain in the build process and even the inconvenience during the games, can everyone not see the there will be left a much needed legacy of regeneration in an area currently a virtual wasteland. The improvements in sporting insfrastructure alone, putting aside the transport and housing improvements, would be immense.

Isn't this what all you political and social commentators want, more inner city regeneration and entry level housing in a normally very expensive area.

I work in an Olympic Borough and really hope we get the games. It would benefit so many people and open up so many possibilities for everyone from athletes through to businesses.
Our current sporting facilities are poor and this would rectify that problem immediately!!

Seriously though, I am in full support, but IMHO we do have very little chance of winning it.

I think Paris will win it on the issue of transport. IMHO, London needs to use its river, create some proper cycle infrastructure and get some trams running because it's underground system creaks at the mo.

It's a shame though, because London is miles better than Paris.

At peak times Central London creaks.

But the games are in East London.

Anyone coming from East London, Essex, East of London will go straight to the games.

From t'north they will have direct trains and/or go thru Euston- St Pancras/ Kings Cross to Stratford or go straight from St Pancras Kings Cross.

The games will not generate any more spectators than travel to football games in London, in fact a lot less. I have never noticed the system creaking on a Saturday.

London has 6 million commuters a day and **** knows how many tourists, the games will not make the slightest difference in central London.
The transport issue has for some unknown reason been blown out of all proportion.

I personally will walk to the games. A journey that will take 30 minutes.

I have always been in support. Living near the potential games, I suppose it focusses the mind on the pro's and cons.

The benefits for East London totally overwhelmes any cost, disruption, inconvenience that the wessies with their 50k plus jobs in the City may suffer.

But with this enthusiasm, I have just got a job with the LDA to work in the Olympic Zone, working with the present businesses 284 of them, to provide them support etc. 50 of these businesses will have to move what ever the decision.

As a result I do also benefit from a daily e-mail briefing etc on the games. The IOC bods are probably only yards away from me as I type,

I believe from an article I read during the last round of the falmer enquiry that Brighton had been earmarked as a possible overspill in terms of accomodation for olympic tourists and non essential olympic support bods.

Also the black rock ice rink project would be completed by 2012 and could double up to host olympic hockey while falmer could host olympic football along with the Saints and possible Reading.

Can't remember my exact source so not entirely credible BUT not entirely unrealistic.

Didn't they propose the docklands as the London's venue last time when Manchester was chosen as the UK's bid city before getting shat on by Sydney and Beijing in the final vote?

I support the games coming to the UK fully, London's public transport system is just as good as Paris if not better and cleaner. There are certainly less nutters on the London underground than the Paris Metro.

I doubt the olympic venue team will ever get to hear about the proposed wonderful modern stadium to be built at Brighton. Not exactly a shining example of our countries ability to build modern sporting venues! If they got to hear of the grief we have had to go through I think it would cast a doubt over building a olympic park in London - how many public inquirys would that take?

No public enquiries.

The venues have already received planning permission from all of the Councils, the GLA (the Mayor).

Several of the venues are already at design stage and 61% are already in existence. Which is more than all of the other cities!
