more like a narrative set by Labour themselves in the pass few days banging on about how they'll sweep aside the Tories. its was a good election for Labour but they set expectations far higher, bit of an Arsenal of political outcomes.

Corbynistas are trying to blame the media for setting expectations too high for Labour – anyone who follows Owen Jones on Twitter knows that is rubbish and the fault lies with Team Corbyn themselves. On Wednesday Jeremy Corbyn himself boasted to LBC: “we are going to do very well on Thursday”. Jezza said that in places like Basildon “Labour must be winning council seats comfortably”. Basildon was a Tory gain. Corbyn said of Thurrock: “This is a seat we can, and will, win” and even visited two days ago. Labour failed to take control. The expectations management shambles is on Jezza…
Chris Williamson said this is the “easiest period to campaign for Labour in my entire life”. Labour lost control in Williamson’s Derby. He would have lost his seat if the result was replicated in a general election. Almost as if the people of Derby haven’t been impressed by their crackpot Kremlin apologist MP.
Sadiq Khan hyped up Labour’s chances of taking Wandsworth and Barnet: “There is now no corner of London where Labour can’t win – and with enough hard work we can challenge the Tories even in their crown jewels of Wandsworth and Barnet”. Sadiq has now gone missing for some reason.
John McDonnell even claimed that in Hillingdon Labour were on the “edge of a significant victory”. The Tories increased their majority there.
Best of the lot was Corbyn’s former spokesman Matt Zarb-Cousin, who vowed to wear a Trump hat if Labour didn’t win Barnet:

Yes, it's this level of competence that the Labour party are up against, and they STILL can't make gains and eat into the Tory lead of the popular vote.
I think that just says it all about Corbyn's appeal to 70% of the electorate. Labour need to wake up and smell the coffee because a more centralist party would annihilate the Tories.

The delusion on here constantly by Labour voters is astounding.
Let’s look at the current situation:
May is crap, I mean really crap. And I am usually a Tory voter.
Brexit is proving to be difficult (we can argue as to why and the rights/wrongs about that on the other thread, but it’s being made hard by the EU/Remain MPs/HoL).
Incumbent governments nearly always suffer a protest vote in the council elections.
Austerity/NHS/Police numbers - there’s lot’s of sticks to beat the government with.
Yet, with all of this Labour has gained 60 seats and the Tories down 5.
If there are a ny parties going to be held tonight, they will be in the Tories HQ and not Labours. If the lefties on here really believe this is an endorsement of Labour then keep drinking the cool-aid. This is a bad result for Labour; not because of the votes you got, but because , even with all the Tory crap, you still couldn’t inflict damage.
