I don’t really mind what he is saying but it’s not the best timing to say it the day of a match against them.

He really shouldn't be put in that position.
Neither should any other player who's played at another club for years and then goes back to play there with another team for that matter.
I'd say he probably answered that (ebtirely predictable) line of questioning as well as he could have done.
