Exactly.

Not to take anything away from Trossard's goal, but that was poor defending from Liverpool. Van Dijk looked as though he just wasn't on the pace at all, and we just played round him. As for Robertson's challenge, Trossard feigned a shot, and then just sidestepped him as if he wasn't there. Great play from Trossard, but weak from Robertson.
Not to say I told you so but I did put up on a few threads here before the game that VVD is wayyy off the pace this season and konate is average. Liverpool can be scored against easily. It's just that most teams are afraid to attack them.

I think Liverpool have a tough run coming up now with atheltico west ham and arsenal. Their midfield is also threadbare so I can see some major banana skins on the horizon.

That's to take nothing away from Brighton. The second half was stunning. When the 3rd disallowed goal went in I went absolutely ballistic with the kids next to me, such a shame it was offside.

With the added dimension of mwepu I now believe we can finish top 8. Top 10 minimum.

Mwepu looks like a player. Classy and clever lay offs, reads the game and great energy to get up and down the pitch. Him and Biss with Lallana just behind the front two will cause teams a lot of problems

You are quite at liberty to say 'I told you so' if you make a good call. I've obviously played the vid of Trossard's goal a few times now (I'm into 3 figures), and it struck me that VVD was so slow to react, and unable to accelerate when he did finally react. What's going on? Anyway, it's not our problem.

Some of the Liverpool fans were lamenting missing Fabinho in the middle, but we all have injuries from time to time.

What I really liked about our performance, was how we (=Potter) turned it around. A bit like we did against Citeh in the second half, but this time with a greater return. We have a plan B, we deploy it, and it works. We now have to work out how to make plan A work better, and iron out the silly mistakes (like leaving Mane unmarked) that nearly cost us the game.

I agree about Mwepu. He has a good engine and is beginning to develop a useful goalscoring habit. I'm a great believer that you win or lose a game in midfield. Bissouma has got a challenge for the 'first name on the teamsheet.'

Some moronic Dutch Liverpool fan has been tweeting how we parked the bus all game and stole a point. I think he has given up on the Amsterdam coffee shops and has recently moved on to psychotropic chemicals.

That offside was a lot closer than looks. Defenders foot is very much inline with Trossard. Would like to have seen the VAR lines.

Yup, thought about it a lot but at least some part of Trossard is offside, I think.

In one or two years that goal would be allowed though. Currently they are trialing a new offside rule in a number of youth competitions, where if any part of the body is onside, its not offside compared to the current rule where if any part of the body is offside, the whole player is considered offside. A very good rule change I think and I think it will quite likely be implemented before the WC next year.

Exactly as it should be but we would have gone 3-0 down if it was available now? I may be wrong and Salah was well offside, I was just so delighted it was disallowed that I may not have been giving it my full attention

True... probably would have been a goal.

Was Anfield (or rather the Pool fans) as super-dead silent as it appeared on TV?

Short answer yes - I felt there were so many football tourists in the crowd around the stadium - no idea where they get their tickets from.

The bulk of the home fans felt like people just expecting a win (as much as I was just expecting a defeat) and there was a moment in the second half when the murmurings of discontent were collectively audible. They all realised simultaneously that this was more than Brighton getting a few lucky breaks, it was a different game completely with Liverpool failing to compete.

Still impressive singing all round the stadium at times - but far from the raucous Anfield of yesteryear. At certain points I did look around and think, wow this is quiet, with so many (passionate) people in the same place.
