Sorry to disappoint, but as someone who travels up to Liverpool frequently at weekends - it's never cheap. It's a rip off.

.. and I seem the price steadily increase over the years.

Never done the Midland, because the Virgin (for all it's expense) is very quick.

A way to use your cheap London Midland ticket back from Liverpool.

Get the 19:34 London Midland from Liverpool to Crewe or Stafford, then pick up the 19:48 ex Liverpool Virgin. Chances are that the 19:48 will be so rammed that the ticket inspector won't be able to get round the train. By getting the slightly earlier one out of Lime Street you will get passed the ticket barriers there.

Liverpool 19:34 19:48
Crewe --- 20:16 20:24
Stafford - 20:38 20:43
London ---------- 22:27

Good idea but risky. I worked out with a railcard its £9+£25+£13. £47.

Newbury, Berkshire.
In 91 the club ran a seagulls special train from Hove direct to a royal mail postal depot in Liverpool where they had double decker buses on hand to take us to Anfield.

No idea the logistics behind chartering a train or whether it's even possible these days. Might be worth asking the club??

That might explain why the concourse at Euston was so empty when I arrived to catch the 09:10 am - when I got to Lime Street I just hopped into the first taxi and went straight to the ground.

I don't think it's possible to charter a train from someone like Virgin , but if you ask the people who specialise in rail-tours for the rail enthusiast, someone like Pathfinder tours.

A six seater Piper Chieftain private plane departing Shoreham arriving Liverpool and return (incl. late departure airport fees) will be £2,286 (no VAT to pay). Redair Charters.

Apparently a lot of interest already.

£380 each for the thrill of flying in style to the game.

Out of my price range, but would be a great experience.

Just had a look at their website, some of the train times and fares they quote are laughable.

West Ham on the 14th April for £141 per person

Flight time: 0:20 minutes one way

Train times: 8 stops 4 hours and approx £50. return

No, the 19.48 is a Virgin Train (as has been detailed many times in this thread now).

Oh. I haven't read the thread properly.

Well someone had to do it as there is loads of debate, I have just e-mailed the club and asked is there any chance of laying on either a chartered train or chartered plane (s).

Wait and see, I'm not holding my breath but if you don't ask you don't get.

Watch this space.

I work for a UK charter airline - cost is about £10-15k to operate an aircraft with full crew. I'm pretty sure that the approach would have to come from the club though, rather than a fan.

Or use the £15 London Midland voucher to get up there and then buy a £30 single back to London after the game. £45 rather than £74

Am I correct in thinking it takes 4.5 hours on the London Midland to get up there? As opposed to 2 hours on Virgin.
