The January home game would be a good opportunity to show our support in some way or another

The family will need to start paying for the ongoing medical care very soon - all in detail of the article

I'm full of sympathy for this poor bloke and his family, and not averse to giving a bit of money to help them - but his medical costs? Won't he be treated free at the point of service by the NHS?

He requires very specialist treatment. We obviously don't know what is happening behind the scenes, but obviously if every player donated simply a weeks wages.....

I know that opens up the debate "why don't you donate a weeks wages", but at that level of income you simply don't miss it.

A sad story all round, but the Irish healthcare service is free at the point of use. Obviously he wasn't expecting it to need it but I wonder if he had any private travel health insurance? It appears not as his family are having to appeal for donations.

Whilst I have every sympathy with the family, why support him and not other people in similar situations?
Firstly, anyone who goes away should have insurance. Worth pointing out though, insurance normally only covers a trip of three days or more so an away trip is probably not covered.
And then, as pointed out already, NHS is free to all.
What is the difference between this gentleman and say someone involved in a car accident in Germany that was not their fault (made up scenario)?

I wish him all the luck in the world, and there's no reason why individuals can't donate to his GoFundMe page if they want to. I do think this particular chap won't go short of funds, however, simply because of the high profile of his case, and the fact there's a vast global community of Liverpool and Ireland fans who will always want to help him (not to mention some very rich people associated with Liverpool FC and Roma).

There are an awful lot of deserving charities an individuals out there in desperate need of money for whatever reason who will- sadly for them- never have the same media appeal as a football fan who was terribly injured at a big game, so while I have nothing whosoever against this chap, you could easily find other causes to donate your cash to who will be every bit as appreciative.

Who knows, maybe Liverpool fans are turning at games with bucket collections for Sean Cox, which you could always drop money into. I'm just not convinced we- as a club or a group of fans- need to be part of some sort of organised fundraiser, that's all I mean by this!

Maybe because we are a football forum and we haven't been backward in coming forward to help fellow football fans in the past is why the suggestion has been made. Although it shouldn't IMO effect any local charities who may have the Liverpool game earmarked for their collection. Its up to individuals to donate if they wish online like in the past.

Of course some people on this forum who still enjoy football violence would no doubt have no sympathy.

That's ridiculous. He's a fan of a different club living in a different country. By all means contribute if you wish, but the idea of a collection at Albion home games leaves me cold. Where do you stop? There are so many deserving causes you could have a collection every week. and still not help too many. I go to the Amex to get away from problems and for 90 minutes watch football, not to have someone else's problems thrust upon me.

Unless you are asked for a weeks wages for every very noble cause that needs financial support and, more than likely, you already donate well over a weeks wages?

In all seriousness, what do we feel qualifies someone as worthy of a minute's applause?
