Whilst I accept it was badly handled is this proportionate? I’ve been at plenty of badly managed sporting events. Euro final for one. Plenty of Palace away games. Never thought to take it legal.

Being pepper sprayed for doing absolutely nothing wrong could warrant legal action? Not sure all 1700 have equal claims..

Given the memories of Hillsborough it's quite probable that what happened in Paris brought a lot of fear and trauma back. Its rare that it happens but when you find in the middle of tear gas and riot police I'm sure it's terrifying.

Every time someone puts down or defends Liverpool fans I recall the last game of the 17/18 season. At the M6 toll road services coaches from many clubs just happened to arrive at the same time. Brighton going to Liverpool, coach dry. Everton, coach dry. Man Utd west country fans, coach dry. We all mingled and chatted happily about football.
Then 2 Liverpool west country coaches arrived, fans drunk and abusive with cans available on the coaches.

I imagine this will go precisely nowhere

Well, most in here won't find out since a majority of us will be dead before this thing is sorted.

So clearly this means all 20 million Liverpool fans are horrible people. Or?

If we go down the anecdotal route, as a reason to peddle generalisations:

- Liverpool fans at the Amex .... nothing ever happens. Whilst Chelsea, Leeds, West Ham and others spit, throw stones at the station, are homophobic.
- My Albion supporting mate covered in gob from Mancs.
- Liverpool not featuring in the latest report this week on crime at games. Whilst Everton and West Ham did.
- I had a Tottenham colleague, not a kid, who took WHL matchdays off to get there early and in a mob attack away fans. I'm talking last 10 years, not 1970's.
- Vandalism to the Amex in the last 11 years from away fans, not just Palarse.

Oh well, that settles it.

For far to long football has got away with sorry about that after crowd control has been a Shit show. Our very own Barber decided to kettle fans in the NS last season as he regularly shits himself every time we play Palace.

Heysel ?

I’ve been going to England games away for 18 years so I know probably more than anyone (bar a few) what it’s like to be treated based on reputation rather than actions.

Wow ... you really are being inflammatory! You really think there's a link between what happened in Heysel and the events of this years' Champions League Final!

Absolute rubbish! Real Madrid fans also had issues albeit to a lesser extent.

Really ? I know they had some issues but nothing like the Liverpool fans. Got any social media footage as I didn’t see any at the time from memory

Ok so if the French authorities weren’t prejudiced against the Liverpool fans, why did they police it the way they did ? Why were Liverpool fans singled out and treated differently ?

I’m not really sure what is ‘wow’ or ‘inflammatory’ about what I said

You’re deluded if you don’t think in some places English fans of any type are not treated different to others - mainly based on decades of trouble caused

This. French policing leaves a LOT to be desired.

The three times I've been to Liverpool for Albion matches I've got on great with the locals in the pub before and after. I can't vouch for west country Liverpool fans, but then neither could people from Liverpool...

That's a pretty inflammatory oversimplification. I seem to recall an incident in the 80s that involved dreadful policing, lying by the authorities and a large-scale cover up that stained the reputation of Liverpool fans because of a shameful campaign run by elements of our national media to paint the fans as the perpetrators rather than the victims?

England fans have been and continue to be complete thugs abroad. Liverpool fans, far less so.

Bloody hell... I'm not sure I like defending Liverpool fans

Indeed.

And there is no such thing as contributory negligence. It's nothing more than prejudice. That sort of blame-reasoning soon makes it 'understandable' to hate black people etc. etc. They brought it all on themselves, after all, etc. etc.

And while I'm at it, there's no smoke without fire. Know what I'm saying? ???

I think your comments are misunderstood. It may be 'understandable' that the Liverpool fans were targeted based on history, but that doesn't equate to this being justified. Prejudice may be understandable but it is never justifiable.
