As I have said before, over many decades now, personally I have always found Scousers to be a very friendly, welcoming and fun bunch. Equally, you always pop up with these snide posts….

In my working life, I visited and came into business contact with quite a number of Scousers, most were very friendly and some were exceedingly amusing . Lovely people, but with the business I was in, you always had to bear in mind that a number of them would turn out to be ‘ charming scallies’.

What business are you in?

Yes, the National Anthem is a dirge and so are those of several other nations and there is something to be said about deciding where it is appropriate to be sung and where it isn’t. Whilst I wouldn’t personally sing it, I wouldn’t boo it or that of other nations.

What business are you in?

None, I am retired.
Drug dealing in Toxteth.
Only joking, I was Operations Director for a pub company, and out of necessity, I sometimes had dealings with some interesting people in some interesting parts of Liverpool and elsewhere.:lolol::thumbsup:

I despise national anthems, cant stand the nationalism they represent. I have not stood for any national anthem since I was about 13. This doesn't mean I wont pick a side in an international match, of course I do. However the level of fervent national identity that is often portrayed at these games turns my stomach.

Bit wishy washy for my liking. Compares with kids born and bred in Sussex chosing to support Utd or Citeh or Liverpool. You 'pick' an international side!

What exactly is wrong with displaying national pride, particularly at a sporting event when it is nation vs nation ?

As long as it doesn't spill over into rancid angry spittle-dashed abuse of the opposition, I don't see a problem with it. What are fans supposed to do, turn up in grey suits and sit on their hands ? That sounds fun.

Never really read the lyrics to God Save The Queen before, but looking at it now... it is pretty weird tbh. Doesn't seem to be a lot of... you know, England, in it.

I think a rousing rendition of Oops Upside Your Head! with accompanying row boat dance should get the crowd going?

Similar, I go there at least once a year and have been for many years. The interesting thing is that in my experience there are plenty of born and bred scousers not happy with the way their Labour Council has and continues to work, the comments on liverpool echo are always worth a look.

Understandably so.

They do have a good sense of humour in my view, so perhaps they are simply being ironic?

I don’t really see the correlation and don’t agree that we should politely accept the National anthem.

Taking the knees and national anthems are different events with very different backgrounds and conitations. While I have no issue with booing the national anthem I’d be embarrassed if a mate of mine booed taking the knee.

We know why taking the knee takes place and with the issues of race in football it would be appalling to disrespect that event imo.

Booing a song about god saving one entitled woman at a football game which she never attends or gives a fig about is fine in my book as it simply seems out of place at best and totally archaic and backwards at worst.

As the camera scanned the stands I saw people singing their own songs, booing, talking to their mates, ignoring it etc. didn’t see many singing along. The masses spoke and it suggests to me that it’s time to get rid.

Why boo? Why not just ignore it.

As always, you spout politically polite diatribe and say whatever you think will make you popular with the wannabe bang on trend types.

I have also met many, many Scousers over the years, and in the early years found them cheeky, amusing and full of energy. Only in later years did my opinion change, but the more I look back at early experiences the more I realise that I really do not like or trust a stereotypical Merseysider. Only one in my circle of friends nowadays.

I just tell it like I find it, not pandering to the popularity stakes like you.

so you'd be ok with those same fans booing another countries national anthem? or fans booing during the knee?

there's a matter of etiquette with national anthems, whether you like them or not.

I think there’s a big difference between booing your own national anthem and booing that of another nation. If it’s yours, do what you like with it. If it’s someone else’s, show it some respect by default.

It’s a bit like it being fair game for me to take the p|ss out of my big nose, but I’d expect other people to at least leave that until they know I don’t care.

Charming. You repeatedly make snide comments about Scousers, in fact it’s the only thing which comes remotely close to the number of times you’ve told us you voted remain but now believe in the will of the people and Brexit. :lolol:

There’s a clear agenda IMHO. Just telling it how I find it

PS Politically polite diatribe….isn’t that an oxymoron?

I suppose there's always an irony that the people who most proclaim their love of freedom seldom seem to believe in it when it comes to the right to boo a song about a nonexistent deity looking out for an old woman whose protection I apparently also have to pay for because presumably it's insufficient.

so boo when you agree is ok, boo when you dont agree is bad. its a shame you and others cant seperate the principle from whether you like the anthem.

Yes. That’s pretty much what I’m saying. Booing the national anthem is fine. Booing taking the knee is not.
