Utter scum.

You hardly ever post, with your Trump hat, but it's time I put you on ignore. You seem to have gone mad.

The national anthem is an odd one. Firstly, it's an imposition and, most importantly, it's rather exclusive to an elite. A homage to power.

Look at an anthem like 'Advance Australia Fair' and you see the difference.

I don't get the outrage. Although I do get it when I see where it comes from.

so you'd be ok with those same fans booing another countries national anthem? or fans booing during the knee?

there's a matter of etiquette with national anthems, whether you like them or not.

Well, the sort of England fan who belts out GSTQ at every opportunity is typically the sort who boos the national anthem of the opposition.

Along with many others I think that England needs its own anthem. GSTQ is not the English national anthem.

And in any case today's football was between teams who qualify for the FAC and the EPL - teams from England and....Wales!

Boyo.

Perhaps Football needs an anthem. I'm sure Andrew Lloyd Webster could write one.

When I watch the Olympic medal ceremonies and I hear the National Anthem I feel good about it, proud etc. When I hear it at a football match much less so I'm afraid. Might be based on an (unfair perhaps) impression of passionless, money obsessed over paid footballers I'm not sure. Definitely a different feeling.
As for Liverpool, I was glad they won the League recently just for a change up but their "It Means More" utter claptrap, plus all their sofa fans and the fact their fans often seem to feel they are "better" somehow because of "what they've been through", I now find both them and City "fans" pretty annoying nowadays. Probably in much the same way Man Ure dominance and their hangers on was tiresome. I hope Arsenal or Spurs can rock the boat a bit this season and maybe a plucky little Albion can get to 7th or 8th.

Thankfully your lot are a small minority these days.

See one of the "Princes" secret got let out the bag this week.

Well, you actually said “nobody, NOBODY cares about that lot”. And I pointed out that I do. Now you’re saying there is a small minority.

Just pointing out that what you actually meant was; “I personally really don’t care for the royal family, and most of my peers within my social group agree with this stance. Whilst others may support them, I don’t.”

That’s what you meant.

Yep. Enjoying Jerusalem at the Commonwealth Games tonight.

I know what you mean about people that sing GSTQ, but in absence of there being an alternative I happily sing it and manage to avoid booing the opponent’s anthem.

But, as others have said, time to get rid of the hereditary principle. Just don’t politicize the head of state.

It’s not an international match so why does the anthem need to be sung at all?
I hate this modern idea of a soprano belting out the anthem in any case. It’s for everyone to sing, not a warbler.
Bring back the brass/silver band.

I can see your point but Australia has the same monarchy, our and its own elite. Advance Australia Fair is apt for it's white to beige immigration policy and treatment of the indigenous population.

So what.
.

Yep
If people at a football match want to boo the Queen or the national anthem, or gays, the pope, black lives matter, the opposition team, knee takers, disabled people, poppies, politicians, FIFA, their own chairman, the manager……..etc etc etc
They are free to do so.
Others may well judge the boo-ers as to how classy they are or not, but its all subjective at the end of the day when you live in a free society.

Scousers are pricks though.

I’m not English but your remark sounds disrespectful to me . It’s clearly wrong to boo your countries national anthem . Would never happen in the States .

Quite true, but mass shootings, supermarket gun shops, storming government buildings, denying woman's choice are all dandy in the good old US of A.
If you do not understand why they do it, best not start how wonderful Americans are.

Scouse not English, apparently. I'm not sure how this applies to the millions of lifelong Reds from Guildford, Huntingdon, Truro, Dublin, Nairobi, Bangkok and Oslo, but never let that get in the way of a much loved theme.

I'm not a fan of GSTQ, by the way, it's a dreadful song, and nor do I find myself especially bothered whether players are deemed to have sung it with enough passion or not.

A rather odd observation.
The fact mass shootings are investigated by numerous federal agencies to bring people to justice and the storming of government buildings lead to a number of criminal proceedings against those storming government buildings..........strongly suggest those actions are not considered dandy in the USA..
Selling guns in supermarkets and the debate over abortion are subject to legislation...........you may well disagree with the positions but its simply your opinion against someone elses opinion.

By who's measurement ?

I wouldn't personally boo it. I rather like it- excepting it being hijacked by nationalist types.

But I do recognise some folk don't. And it is all a bit them and us. Bow down to your rulers.

As a person born helplessly into the world, indoctrinated into culture, environment and the age, I have learnt to question things. A call to slavish devotion is one of them.

As for the USA, I find the call to patriotic devotion a little bit unnerving at times.

Good on the Scousers. I am assuming that they don't feel represented by GSTQ, in fact, I assume they feel the opposite and are letting the world know.

One for free speech and expressing an opinion.

Many people don't believe in god or the monarchy, maybe we should try something a little more inclusive for the anthem. Time to try something other than tugging our collective forelock in deference to a leader appointed by a super being.
