I haven't read all the articles or the whole thread but let's not forget that these breakaway clubs will have been working with tv companies to gauge what the financial benefits could be. They'll also be looking at selling their own individual tv rights. If Man Utd could stream games to all their fans they'd earn a fortune. Based on social media, they have 142m following them. If they charged £20 a season, that's considerably more than they earn now. Real and Barca have about 250m each!!

You can see what motivates them and it stinks.

Those clubs that have signed up to it should be banned from next season's European competitions and be required to sign a pledge that they will not form breakaway leagues. Failure to sign the pledge before June means they forfeit their place in next seasons domestic competitions as well.

That said, someone will need to check the small print of the tv contracts.

There's going to be a battle of wills.

The money here is from broadcasting and sponsors. We are the customers for both. We need a worldwide campaign of football fans contacting any organisation that they have subscriptions with to tell them that, if they even enter negotiations to broadcast the breakaway competition, we'll cancel our subscriptions. We should be contacting any potential sponsors saying that they will also be boycotted if they get involved. If there is no profit to be had, it'll all be over very quickly.

Sadly, most of the world doesn’t actually care. Vast broadcasting deals are made profitable by the Asian market which cares more about gambling than it does the history of our football in our country. If these clubs do eventually breakaway we should instead offer to drive them to Barcelona and Madrid. Good riddance. Football will survive.

So far, I have seen the City and Utd fans not liking it, and calling it what it is, a money grab.

Much as people might hate the rich clubs, it's worth remembering that thry have thousands of genuine life long fans. They're not all armchair plastics. Even worldwide united still have hundreds of thousands of genuine local fans.

In one form of another this will go through. The top six (who or whatever that means) have been moaning that they should be receiving more funds than the rest of the division the only way to achieve this is to break away and set up your own league with a big backer with vast sums of cash like J P Morgan.
To think the club's care about the fans is a pipedream, they will still be playing home games and how many fans attend away games, even little old Brighton moan about away ticket allocations.
The top six need more cash to attract the best players and become more competitive in European competitions where the real cash is.
Sad but inevitable.

They will not be allowed into the real Euro competitions. Their players will not be included in international teams either. It is a non-starter IMHO

The BT Sport Broadcast deal for the Champions League is worth £1.2 billion:https://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/bt-s...ntinue to,Conference League for three seasons.
Telefonica in Spain is another £1.1 billion: https://insidersport.com/2020/04/16...ire-champions-league-rights-for-e1-1-billion/
Sky paid 700 million Euros for the Italian in 2017, so the current dealis probably another billion: https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-soccer-champions-italy-sky-idUKKBN1951BO

Consumer threats are incredibly powerful these days. They are almost the only meaningful political power left to the individual. If a threat of boycott is realistically perceived by companies involved in this, they would fall like nine pins.

Im totally happy to do that, but equally would be quite happy to see these teams go. Their owners don’t obviously care about the integrity of the league in our country and they’ll always be looking to do this. Get rid.

And most of their fans are global anyway, the majority are plastics who aren’t local or have ever set foot at their clubs stadium. A Premier League without these teams could be quite wholesome and refreshing... and actually properly competitive. Over time I believe our national game is bigger than these clubs.

What each team outside these six should next season just put their u18's out against them, thus making it a complete farce. Refuse to allow any transfers to them.

It’s been some time since we’ve had any real need for a good protest.

Whistles, top 20 singles, poems, letters and marches* at the ready everybody.

... before these get banned.

All fine with me. Let them create a ‘soccer franchise’ that the very vast majority of fans will have no interest in. Players - you can’t play for your country any more. Clubs - there is no way back, once you vote out, you can **** off forever.

The big growth area in broadcast deals is in Asia.

In any case consumer threats will come to nothing. I won’t be cancelling my subscriptions as I pay mainly to watch BHA on tv. I am also happy to see the back of the big 6. I won’t be the only one.

I've never had Sky Sports or BT sport.. My non purchase hasn't stopped them flourishing without me .. Sadly, enough people will part with their money to make it commercially viable.... However, how exciting can it be to watch the same 12 clubs playing each other every few weeks?

I am not sure worldwide and hundreds of thousands of local fans computes!

Do you watch any football on TV?
I agree with you about the concept.

A lot would depend on how much that circus contract was worth!!!

Sadly, good riddance.

It's going to happen. The money men will keep chipping away until they get it.

I won't be watching any games featuring these teams (outside of Albion games).

TBH, the Champions League hasn't meant anything to me for a few years now. Meh!

FIFA should ban any players taking part from international competitions - they won't - but that would pull part of the rug from under them.
