Livermore gone

It is a joke that we decided not to give an experienced central midfielder who has championship pedigree a good run in centre mid in the first team. I can't remember too many of the loan players or whoever played centre mid last season but to start them instead of a player who was proven in the championship is ridiculous. Livermore was a pure professionnal and always gave it his all. He was not given a fair go at his preferred holding role, instead he was dumped out at left back. I believe from the few games we let him play last season that he is a better holding mid than navarro. It is such a shame that we let a talented player to go to waste.

So you know better than Adams, White/Booker, Slade, Hinselwood/Oatway/Brown and Poyet who all got to see him in training. Not to mention the other mangers who have chosen not to sign him since he has been here. Hmmm

He should have been. He should have been exactly the type of player our midfield was lacking, and he might have even released Thomson to do something other than disappear in the centre! I think he would have been a very good signing had he been played in the centre instead of Virgo, but he wasn't. At best, he played on the left wing. Anyone who was at Southend last season for the 2-0 win which took us top (admittedly, because we'd played a game more than anyone else!) would concur that he looked a real player that night. It's a shame both Adams and Slade were under the misguided notion that he could play at left back, because that is largely what scuppered his Albion career in my opinion. He played there, BADLY, and that was it. Slade lost his confidence in him and never used him again (Orient away in the JPT this season, at LEFT BACK again) aside.

3 successive managers who watched him every day in training and regularly in the reserves didn't think he should be in the team. Do you not think it is telling that nobody, not even a non-league club, has signed him so far? The fact that he was played at left back is an utter irrelevance. He was about as mobile as the big piece of gold rock lying at the southern end of Hove Park and he would have been found out even more in central midfield than at LB.

Interesting article in the Argus this morning (Not online yet), about how he has been up for loan for a while but no team has wanted to pay the 50% of wages that we have been asking for. Quite a refreshingly honest view from him I thought, says that he's enjoyed it and likes the club/players and is disappointed with how it's turned out. Does make you wonder what money he was on though if other clubs can't afford half of that.

Thats what I thought. He must have been on quite a bit.

This whole 'should have been a good player' theory is getting a bit tiresome. Livermore has an even less successful version of McLeod's Albion career. Both appeared to be promising signings, both delivered little. You can bleat all you want about how he wasn't given a chance in the middle, but the facts would suggest that 3 different managers didn't rate him. The fact is, Micky's second regime caused decay at the club, something that I believe still has an influence, even now.

I'm surprised it wasn't a league one club given his pedigree at a higher level (forgetting us obviously)..
