Troy Tate is probably better known for his failed production work with the Smiths, which got scrapped & another producer John Porter was brought in for their 1st lp.
Anyway,he was a very talented musician,in my opinion. Got into his solo stuff,as i was heavily into Teardrop Explodes. Tate played guitar on their 2nd album 'Wilder'.
He made 2 very good albums,& this gem of a song:

Scoundrels.
The lead singer's parents live next door. After hearing band practice for a few months, thinking this actually sounds good, found out who they where. I think they will have a successful future.
Available on iTunes.

The Little Flames were good. Ft. Miles Kane of Last Shadow Puppets. Check out Isobella by The Little Flames. Great lyrics too.

I watched a film last night called "Searching for Sugarman", about Rodriguez, an American musician who became a superstar in Apartheid run South Africa, but wasn't famous here or in the States. Amazing film, some cracking music, have a listen and watch the film, it's brilliant.

Ex-Mekon Jon Langford's next band The Three Johns were in many ways both way more obscure and way better. Atom Drum Bop and The World By Storm are both excellent albums. Did anyone else see tham playing the Escape Club (I think), ca. 1986/87? It was around that time that a very young and unknown Primal Scream played at the Escape supporting someone or other - it may have been the same gig, although I'm not 100% sure.

I used to love the Three Johns, and being at University in Leeds saw them a lot. They were always a really good laugh, having to untangle the guitar leads after every song...
