Whatever you understand by the term 'big' club - and it is open to all kinds of interpretation - we all have our own idea of what constitutes a big club, and I imagine for everyone it is some function of finances, stadium, support, tradition, trophies, number of years in top flight etc etc.

How would you rate the current Premiership? I'd go:

1. Manchester United
2. Arsenal
3. Chelsea**
4. Liverpool
5. Newcastle
6=Spurs
6=Everton
8. Man City
9. Aston Villa
10. Middlesbrough
11. Southampton
12. Birmingham
13. Bolton
14. Blackburn
15. Charlton
16. West Brom
17. Norwich
18. Portsmouth
19. Fulham
20. Crystal Palace

Explanations: ** Chelsea could be anywhere from top to about halfway, as they could be called the biggest at the moment because of the cash, but have been cack for years and when Roman goes they'll be pants again.

Excellent thread!
You've obviously gone for current form Tooting but it is not a legitimate question. How can i list my country's biggest clubs when the 3rd biggest is not on your list?

You're going to get abuse for this thread, however...

1. Manchester United
2. Newcastle
3. Arsenal
4. Spurs
5. Liverpool
6. Man City
7. Aston Villa
8. Chelsea
9. Birmingham
10. Everton
11. Portsmouth
12. Middlesborough
13. Southampton
14. Charlton
15. West Brom
16. Norwich
17. Crystal Palace
18. Bolton
19. Fulham
20. Blackburn

This is based on each club's crowd pulling ability, Sunderland would also be in the top 10.

Although they have more of a history than many in the table, I'd put Fulham bottom in terms of fanbase (and thus potential). Blackburn also have a significant history (pre-Jack for those who know their footy history) but again have a relatively small fan base. It's been debated on here before but to me size is all about fanbase and nothing to do with how many Euro cups are in the cupboard. If Wigan won the Prem and Euro cups every year for the next 46 years on 7k crowds would that make them a big club?? Not in my world.

I would go in no particular order.
Liverpool, ManUre, Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle
Then stop, because they are the only big clubs the rest are big time charlies trying to cling to their coat tails. The prem league is 3 leagues in one. Any side promoted from the Championship (div 1) will always struggle. Then you have the rest in the middle with nothing to play for, 38 games knowing you have no chance of winning the league or going down every season. Boring as F**k.

Exactly, almost any fixture combination involving the remainder...who gives a fug? Bolton v Southampton, Fulham v Middlesboro, Everton v Norwich, Charlton v Aston Villa, Blackburn v Birmingham etc. etc.
