Stephanie Peacock MP was also appointed to serve in Lisa Nandy's team at DCMS a couple of days ago and it seems she shares a love of football, this from her Wikipedia entry:

The Football Governance Bill has cross-party support and was well into the Committee Stage at which point input from interested parties (including our own TB) have been heard with a view to any amendments (so hasn’t been rejected outright).

It was just put on hold because of the campaign.

Kier Starmer has repeatedly voiced his support for the Bill so it will likely proceed when Parliament convenes after the summer recess.

Don't think a Bill can just proceed after a pause/change of Government? It will have to start all over again, unless I'm mistaken, as it's a Conservative Bill?

Correct.

A Bill can normally be 'carried over' into a new parliamentary session, following the summer recess, but only by the same government or Minister.

But not in a new Parliament, with a new government, following a general election.

Mrs DiS and I wondered if Lisa Nandy had been demoted to Culture, Media and Sport, but it’s so important in many ways and she is enormously capable.
Sir Keir has already said they will continue with the BBC licence fee, putting an end to the BBC battle with the Tories. Maybe Labour are more able to deal with criticism! Woke rules OK.
So much has been said by so many people recently about the importance of the arts in education and all sorts of other ways - not just for Old Etonians to trip over homeless people as they leave the opera.
And anyone who really supports the Albion must surely appreciate the importance of Sport to a community, and the good it can do.

....yes good to have Lisa at the helm for this after all that Nadine-nonsense, but don't underestimate the challenges as the BBC charter renewal work has to start soon to be complete by 2027, and the funding problem will be a key part of that.

And anyone who really supports the Albion must surely appreciate the importance of Sport to a community, and the good it can do.

Yes agree, but more needs to happen to get the word out about this positive impact as there are still plenty of "football is just a bunch of hooligans" views out there sadly.

I don’t think the message that sports is a good thing needs to be promoted; I think most know this. What is needed is a huge increase, and improvement, in facilities at schools and in the communities in general. The 2012 Olympics, and amongst many things how it highlighted the dearth of swimming pools in London, should have been a wake up call.

Agree on both points, but at least sensible people will be dealing with it now.
