Lionel Messi is the best player in the world at the moment, but if he doesn't win a World Cup in his career. Like the great Pele or Maradona did, yes I did say Maradona. Then he will never be called one of the greatest players in the world. IMHO.

He already is regularly called THE greatest player in the world and touted by many as the best ever.

I'm confused? So you're saying they're a poor team in what you call a Mickey Mouse league, yet they can thump the best (or certainly one of the best) team in England? What does that make the English leagues then?

YOU'RE CONFUSED! How the fugg do you think I feel?!

Yes I know they are constantly saying he is THE greatest player in the world. But in my eyes, if he doesn't win a World Cup in his career. Then you can't put him up there with the likes of Pele or Maradona. Which I've said before.....

I dont get the world cup thing he is the best player ever imo, he cant win the world cup on his own, his only one player Argentina have some world class players but they dont much up to the likes of spain etc... That does not mean Messi is not the greatest, pinning the World Cup on it its not right imo.

Messi had dual qualification (and chose Argentina). Imagine if he had chosen Spain? They might as well have cancelled the World Cup.

Had this debate on here a month or so back, totally agree he needs to win the WC to be the best player ever. I am no means knocking the fella I really hope he does it. It is always a great sight when a player lights up a WC (that's a World Cup not a water closet).

So George Best was shit then? He never played AT a world cup...

The point is with the WC, when people ask the question, "who is the greatest footballer of all time?", 9 times out of 10 most people will say "Pele" or "Maradona" because of what they achieved at a WC, it is noticed on a global scale. Then you have the likes of Best and Cruyff that fall just behind these guys.

How could Messi ever play at the Amex?

Ten years to get into the Premier, work our way up to a third place finish (or fourth and qualify), draw Barcelona (long shot) in the league stage of the Champions League, or come second in the league stage and get drawn against Barcelona?

He'll be dead by the time we get into the Champions League. And we'll all be wearing space helmets and sticking pills up our arses whilst sat round a hovering dining table.

Ah yes Athletic Club Bilbao....who last won La Liga in the 83/84 season.
The premier league in my eyes has dropped in quality, compared to previous seasons as we only have one English team left in European competitions this year to prove. Messi is a quality player and he diserve's to be praised for what he has done at still such a young age.
