The delicious 'totally tropical taste' beverage is being rebranded after nearly 50 years, now to be known as Fanta Pineapple & Grapefruit.

Another misguided marketing decision. Lilt is a strong and distinctive brand name and had a stand alone identity. Fanta Pineapple and Grapefruit will get lost amongst the Fanta and Tango ranges. They keep doing it. Tango Cherry became Tango Dark Berries not long ago.
Just leave be.

I feel strangely saddened by this despite not having had a Lilt in 20-odd years.

As an aside, do you get the Fanta "WTF?" range in the UK? (What the flavour?). It's like drink Russian Roulette; you don't know what flavour you're going to get. I guess the "WTF" branding would be a bit risque so marketing may be different in the Anglosphere.

I'm guessing the Lilt brand isn't as strong as the Fanta brand, which is why this decision has been made

Yep. I’m not a fan of fizzy drinks but Rio Tropical is pretty much the only fizzy pop I drink. Maybe a mango Rubicon if I’m on holiday or feeling daring.

CEO- Lilt sales are way down, what can we do?
MARKETING- Let's anounce a name change. There will be uproar amongst the customers and press, we'll get so much free publicity and sales will rocket. Then, after a week, we can anounce that we've changed our mind and get even more sales and free publicity.
