Lifting a Bus

Surely you don't need to lift it, just tip up one side. I reckon that should halve the effort, so 150 (ish) some lifting, some pushing the side. Seems plausible to me

But it was a single decker, so I assume a double decker would probably require two people.

And where would that 100 people each get a hold to gain maximum lift.

No idea BG. But the incident in Walthamstow from 2015 suggests people attempted it successfully.

Remember watching a video from Japan I think of a train carriage being lifted to release person trapped underneath. The technique used was to have some lifting while others pushed against the side of the carriage causing it to tilt.

It helped that there was a team of sumo wrestlers nearby to help.

Using an average of 80kg per person = 6 x 80 = 480kg

Weight of double decker = 10 tonnes or 10,000kg

Total weight = 10,480kg

Say the average person can lift 50kg and due to the awkwardness of the object.

I'd say 210 people but how they'd all manage to get a grip at the same time would be a feat.

assuming lifting clean off the ground, indeed that would be difficult to manage. you'd need some pullies and then you could apply gearing, so also could need far fewer people. if its a more practical purpose to lift off someone trapped, you only need people to lift a fraction of the weight as you'd be merely displacing most the weight.

I could imagine one Chuckle Brother, the little, slightly more devious one, lifting such a vehicle off of the other one. The bigger one, though, the Lennie of the two, given the chance, would crush his smaller "Brother" in a passionate embrace if only he could.

The bus in Eastenders was wedged under a bridge, shirley making it even more difficult (or impossible) to tilt. What was really needed was the arrival of a young Michael Caine saying to Max and Mick "Hang on a minute, lads. I've got an idea.........."
