[Misc] Lidl Planning to Open on Goldstone Retail Park

I read the other week that a new development has been given the go ahead north of Hove Station. This will include the old coal depot and where Homebase is (Sackville Ind Estate?) The developers have plans to make the Goldstone Retail Park a leisure facility (an open area to complement new developments along the Old Shoreham Road) There are plans to mark the old Centre Spot with some sort of memorial-type thing. They say 2030 but are trying to pursuade the current owners of the land to see the benefit of bringing the plans forward. I'm not sure how the Lidl plans fit in with all this.

For me it is a grave. And I do not step on graves.

There are loads of places to shop and no need at all to financially support a business that exists because they were willing to pay someone greedy to do something despicable. How that retail park was built has not changed and I will remain consistent in never giving them a penny. I'm not angry, but I will not forget and will not condone. If you have chosen to, that's a matter for you.

I suppose where you live in relation to the retail park can affect your attitude to it. If it's not local to you and doesn't offer a convenient retail shopping option then it's easier to boycott without actually making the conscious decision to do so.

I don't know what the recent history of the Goldstone Retail Park is regarding who the current landlord is. Are the current businesses who pay rent lining the pockets in any way of those who were originally responsible for selling the land and are the current owners who benefit from any rents the same as those who originally bought the land?

An analogy could be made to one's attitude of visiting the US or Australia which is essentially land which was misappropriated from the Native Americans or Aborigines. Because of the passage of history there is no wrestling with one's conscience before visiting those countries or many other countries with similar questionable histories.
