Taking into consideration what was said about who ever forms the next British gouvernment is likely to be out of power for a whole generation after the next election, would it not be better for The Conservatives to let A Lib /Lab alliance run the country?

No we've had enough of public school socialists and Hampstead and Islington pseuds ruining the country.

Brown has seen for a long time the need for PR to maintain a progressive Government.

where do you get that idea from? there are sounds from the Dark Lord and Alan Johnson saying they think reform is a good idea, but they havent addressed it in 13 years. more importantly, Labour fundementally support the constituency model, so thats full PR right out. then, they know that under FPTP high density northern cities benefit the most. why would they choose to lose so many seats?

its not just the Conservative that would never form a majority government ever again, neither would Labour. there are too many ideological faultlines for them to just be happy to sit back and have a perpetual Lab/Lib pact.

LIB-LAB pact will mean another election very soon, I would think, by which time Labour will have installed a new leader, and be far better placed, to wipe the smug grin off Dave's chubby 'smack-me' face.

In that second election an increased labour share, would probably still need a pact with the LibDems to govern, but would be much stronger / more stable.

IMO, like.

Noooooo.....

A Lib-Lab pact would just keep Gordy on. The LibDems were too soon to kick Labour into touch as the "third force"', so there's no way all the diehard Labour activists would agree to dethrone Gordy just to keep Nick and co happy.

I think we have to see what Dave can come up with. If he has to deal with a monumental financial crisis then it's better that he does it with a weak hand. If Osborne cocks up, although I think Ken clark will be the REAL financial spokesman, then the Cons will be exposed for what they are, all talk and no real experience or judgement.

Brown has been a supporter of PR for a while, lets not forget LABOUR BROUGHT in PR for European and national, Mayor and LOndon elections. Blair was againgst it for the UK. Whilst he was the main man, PR didn't stand a chance, and why throw away, that huge majority.

Brown pushed for the Lab/Lib Pact in 97 and wanted a more of a Government of the People. Lets not forget, he has only been leader for 2 years and his first manisfesto in came PR.

He also naturally wants PR, with the belief as I have, that the UK is naturally a progressive, social/ liberal democratic country and if you want to protect your achievements" over the last 13 years - don't let Cameron and his rude boys in!!
