I'm with you, but BG wants to sign James Collins or similar!!??

There is a lot to be said for BG's train of thought.

Look at the fees we are paying for our forwards They are all around the £15m - £18m price range. Historically defenders sell for less than forwards, so I can't see us paying the same for a defender as we are paying for a forward.

If this guy is on our radar, I honestly can't see him being on our radar at that sort of price.

He won't cost £15m, that's just a figure put out there by Reading to try and put off potential suitors. I reckon we could potentially get a deal done with them if they have genuine interest in Baldock, otherwise it will probably be O'Connell from Sheffield United.

Just a thought but what about Seb Bassong, not sure what he is doing now if anything but although I didnt rate him CH did Not sure if he is up to being a 4th choice CB., which is what we need.

Firstly, I have EVERY confidence that we will only pay a figure that aligns with our valuation...

Secondly, EVERY signing we have made so far has implicit resale value, which James ****ing Collins wouldn't......

Thirdly, EVERY signing we have made so far is genuine competition to be fist choice (keepers excepted)...

Apart from the above I wholeheartedly agree with BG...

FFS BG... a 4th-choice CB is NOT, repeat NOT, what we need... there is ZERO alignment with your thoughts on this and our club's stated and demonstrated recruitment policy... we NEED a CB who offers genuine competition to D, D & B... not some journeyman has-been like J Collins...

Baloigun is the obvious competition for Dunk and Duffy so are you saying we need competition for him plus Dunk & Duffy or just cover. I think it is the latter

You are so, so wrong...

Think his time has been and gone BG. Was without a club for the whole of last season by the looks of it and only played 8 times in his last Championship season with Norwich.

What’s Wes Browne up to these days, former England international!

Call the Dr. I’ve got a severe case of Grandaditis and it’s highly contagious.

Brilliant fishing BG!

Having read the last few pages of this thread, it occurs to me that BG might be a very clever WUM.
But why would a very clever person spend so much time on a football forum?
Occam's Razor probably applies.

You and I are obviously differing on our interpretation of what CH is saying. At no time has he said we NEED a 4th CB what he has said is that in an ideal world he would like one but if that is not possible he is happy with what we have as a squad. That to me indicates that he would like another at the right price but is not desperate to spend big money on such a player at this moment in time perhaps it will be a different situation in January.

Serious question, do you believe what football managers say in interviews. CH is hardly likely to come out and say "We are desperate for a centre back. We'll pay whatever we need to". He is playing down what he needs both to not make it seem we are desperate to selling clubs and so he can say he is happy if we missed out.

However, we are very keen to sign a centre back and clearly will pay good money for one given the bids for Moore and apparently O'Connell.

Also, your quote from him was said before we signed a winger too and we just broke our club record on signing one of them.

Interestingly no one has mentioned the loan market. Last season we were linked to Joe Gomez but he chose to stay and fight for his place and had a pretty good season until he got injured and I think he may find it tough to get back in the team with the arrival of VVD and the emergence of Trent Arnold.

Just a quick look at Transfermarket under available defender shows a large number of varying age and ability I am sure there is one there that fills our needs should the occasion arise.

You do know it’s just someone like you giving a guesstimate of a players value, not what they would actually cost even if they were available?
