Are we essentially doing to Reading for Moore, what Burnley did to us for Stephens?

Low balling with tiny incremental increases only to be shocked when Reading eventually tell us to F off?

I was speaking to a Reading season ticket holder this week and he reckons we’ll get him. He has no insider knowledge, just his gut feeling as a fan. He rates Moore and thinks he’ll do well in the PL describing him as very good on and with the ball.

Get sense that Reading are prepared to sell Moore. Depending on deal, ££ etc.
We were a lot more hardcore about keeping Stephens. Even refusing a transfer request etc.

Possibly although I think the big difference is their apparent valuation of him is way off

It’s been a long drawn out poker game but it has yet to finish.

Not sure we even put a value on Stephens did we, just said that he wasn’t for sale?

The value is inflated because he is HGP. However we need to sign HGPs and every Championship club can see our squad numbers and will raise their prices accordingly. It is an incredible opportunity for them to make big profit.

The reality is that we will have to pay over the odds on this one (or O'Connell or McNair) because of the nature of the system. As such, his value is whatever we pay for him, not whatever we think he is actually worth compared to a foreign CB import.

This added cost also reinforces the importance of developing a top notch academy so that we can produce our own HGPs in house without throwing away money on transfer fees

Get Button - and no other club will know whether Baldock is leaving or not - and we reach our target of 8 HGP. ( It wouldn't take much for clubs to assume Norwood is going though ).
