Whilst wanting to stay maybe BS , if we take off our blue and white tinted specs at the time it would have been a no brainier to move to Sunderland. Footballers have a short career, they want to play in the top division, he was not guaranteed that with us. A doubling or tripling in wages would have been quite attractive. How many of us , had we been in the same position would have stayed?

The vast majority of players want the Premier League and everything that involves, Ulloa did not get half the grief Buckley & Bridcutt did but I accept that like Stephens, their 'heads' weren't right.
You have to ask yourself how many players has Tony sold (who were good enough to keep) to a team in the same league? The two that stick out are our two biggest contract blunders in the last 30 years in my opinion (Murray & Barnes) but there were other circumstances that meant we couldn't keep them. We'd have kept Bridcutt if Garcia really wanted him.
For what it's worth, I loved Bridcutt. I accept that he specialised in just one position but he was Poyet's most important player. He meant that whilst we didn't score so much under Gus, we didn't concede too many either. A real little dynamo in the centre of the park making our team tick.

Top lad. Proposed to his mrs in the hotel bar I was running at the time. I gave him a bottle of fizz on the house and he ended up giving me a couple of players lounge tickets for a match. Even when he was at Sunderland he used to come back to Brighton and used to try to tap me up for a good hotel room rate.
That was a hell of a good Championship side. Both Bruno and Bridge would get in our present team.
I’d have to think a while on Bridcutt but maybe he could have.

To my mind, it's fine if any Albion player wants to leave for "better things" and/or more money. It doesn't suddently make them a bad player/person, or sully their Albion reputation.
But, come one, if it doesn't work out at the new club/s, it's a bit rich for a player to later claim he didn't want to leave - especially when there's a ton of evidence suggesting otherwise.
Thank you. I thought what I wrote was obvious but there you go, I'll be polite and say I guess he just read it wrong. You do seem to be ploughing a lonely furrow though as apparently all of us who were less than enamoured at the manner of his departure are all guilty of looking at it through blue and white spectacles and wanted to deny him the chance of improvement. That's total bollocks of course, but I'm sure it won't stop someone from quoting this post and not understanding it.

BV I believe your memory hasn't let you down, as I understood it new house purchased in a lovely part of Worthing, child attending Lancing College Prep nursery in Broadwater, then the 'tap up' texting started from Poyet, technically illegal under FA rules, but I'd love to see them try and do manager or club for it, he then apparently effectively told Oscar and PB he wanted out, maybe something got lost in translation?
Puts me in mind of Frank Sinatra's timeless quote, "The grass may indeed be greener over the fence, but ultimately its still only grass"

The thing that I found most interesting about the interview was that he had doubts about the direction of the club. And even though his move to Sunderland was a disaster, he was kinda vindicated if you look what happened after he left, with Oscar resigning, our crap transfer window, Hyypiä coming and going and Burke getting the chop.
I agree and, having listened to the interview, it does seem like he wasn't agitating to leave or even wanting to until he realised that the contract offer wasn't up to standard.
The Oscar season was the first step to cutting back that led to the miserable Burke and Hyypia reign. It wouldn't be a surprise to me if the club was trying to lower the average wage too and him getting a lower than expected contract offer doesn't seem too out of step with that strategy.
