Or, more importantly ;) any views on the comparative merits of the Nokia N95, N82 or Sony Ericsson K850i?

Before I go shopping, like :)

At the foot of the downs
they are very much a poor mans iPhone, though so far the only people I know who own one are female..

That should answer your question ...

I don't like it, it feels plastic, the touchscreen doesn't always respond to input and its made by LG.
Typical touchscreen problems then (apart from the LG bit). Looks like I'll be keeping hold of my old phone for a while then. Don't want the Nokia N95 (2 friends have had the screen crack) or the K850i (new navigation option feels horrible), my only hope was the Viewty.

If it's anything like the LG Prada touchscreen thing that I've got then it's SHIT, and it drives me nuts! I cant wait to go back to a good old fashioned Sony Ericsson or Nokia with proper buttons and everything!

This is why I asked. A mate has the Prada thing - which I think was made by LG - and he got rid within a couple of weeks as the novelty factor wore off. Have LG made the Viewty better? I know its got the gizmos, most phone have - but any news on the battery life? I'm a bit clumsy and will it be knackered if I drop it once or twice?

Yeah the Prada phone is made by LG and the novelty does soon go out of the window rather quickly! It takes ages to text and it you are heavy handed with it doesnt work properly. The battery life is shocking, I have to charge it up everyday, my old Sony used to get charged twice a week and used it just the same as this one. I can hardly store anything on it and have trouble with the MP3. The whole thing is just too fiddly I will definitely get rid in a few months time!
