No, you are not confused and I imagine that your reaction is the same as many other folk. Of course it is right that we respect others' feelings and a good thing that we have become more tolerant over the decades to eg homosexuality/race.transgender etc. Some of the discrimination that people suffered must have absolutely soul-destroying -a friend of mine, many years ago albeit, had to keep secret the fact that he went on nudist holidays, convinced that he would have been sacked, had the truth come out.
My concern, and judging from the remarks on here, I am not alone, is that the PC zealots have become as extreme in their interpretation of what constitutes racism/homophobia etc, as the original discrimination against certain minorities was. Just as the Burnley match started, the chap next to me said that for the first time in ages, a team took to the field without one black player. He was simply making an innocent observation, but then felt the need to subsequently tell me on three occasions that he was not racist. How did we ever get to a point where fear takes over, when none should exist.

It’s a bit like the time we went through Mark McGhee signing big black strikers. We all knew it was happening but nobody could say it on NSC for fear of being called a racist

Get a grip.
Where does this stop?
Is it soon going to be offensive to call a paedophile a nonce?
The rate we're going it's not gonna be long.
People seriously need to stop all this getting offended on other people's behalf.

Agreed .

I meant "who on this thread has seen it? "

I don't do Instagram, don't follow LH, and assume he deleted it when this blew up.

How old is his nephew?
Plenty of third party outrage and indignation.

What should be unheard because there is an element of the audience that considers whatever is being said to be unsayable? Do you have a list?
I'm sorry, I really have to nominate that as one of the most stupid questions I have ever been asked. Just try using a bit of common sense (which is one of the reasons that high profile personalities shouldn't have twatter accounts).

"should be stripped of his MBE" :)

Ridiculous.

I'm offended that Ditch the Label Liam Hacket is offended by the tweet and no doubt someone will be offended that i am offended by Ditch the Label Liam hacket is offended about the comment, Can
anyone add to this offended paper trail?

I am in personal agreement with LH, I also think that six year olds shouldn't drink, smoke, watch pornography and should be told how to cross the road safely, not to drink paint, draw grafitti, not set fire to buildings, don't push people infront of trains. or does Liam Hacket feel its OK for them to make up their mind on these issues. Its farcical, that we have even come this far. Liam please spend your time on the real issues of FGM, arranged marriages, under aged sex, Russias stance on gay relationships, the ethnic cleansing of Rohingas and the lying mealy mouthed politicians. Your offence and the outrageous claim to strip LH of his MBE is risible, I find Liam Hacket and his cohorts offensive offensive, no doubt they masquerade under the label of being a charity.

Thanks for listing the real issues, all other issues are fake and can now be disregarded.

I am neither bothered by the lad wearing a dress or what Hamilton said about it , who really gives a damn, it’s hardly important right?

I suppose it is important to those who have dealings with people struggling with gender issues and of course to those who are permanently offended, either by the stuff people say or the fact that the stuff people say sometimes offends people. The thing about this stuff is that to really get het up about it you either need a personal connection to it or both the ability to make wild assumptions about what people think and why they think it and only be on nodding terms with the subject being discussed.

For those taking offence at Hamilton, do you agree with no platforming at universities?

I am totally against 'no platforming' at universities, people can decide whether or not to see a talk by someone that they disagree with and it is a suppression of free speech within institutions the purpose of which is to stimulate debate. I see absolutely no parallel with posting a picture online to make fun of a child who cannot by definition give their permission or realistically respond. The fact that he has chosen an issue like gender identity is secondary but pretty stone age; if he had made a joke about another aspect of the child's appearance in another way it would not have led to the accusations of political correctness gone mad.

Calls to have him stripped of his MBE are hysterical though, he has apologised and we should move on.

Thx. You keep wanting to stifle free speech, just asking where you draw the line. It seems to be anyone who doesn’t share the same definition as you on common sense and has a high profile. Hmmmm

But what if people didn’t know the background of the person presenting? Here are many students who disagree with you, who think it’s unacceptable It seems though you are ok on free speech on certain self defined boundaries and a family video by Hamilton overstepped your sensitivities.

No one in power addresses the problem because they think its ok because they have had gender stereotypes forced onto them from a young age.
If we need strong and enforceable legislation to sort it out then it is a sign there is something hugely wrong. It is massively embarrassing that we need laws to solve this.

You really think it's embarrassing that we need laws to make employers behave fairly to their employees?
