Or, we could attempt to break into the exclusive club like those upstarts Leicester...

.... and do what they did with Harry Maguire? Yes, good idea,

Play for us for a couple of seasons, then we'll take a £50M profit when we sell you on; and because we didn't stand in your way you'll trouser £millions as a result too.

The difference there is they had already got to the top table when they sold Maguire.

Clearly I’m not advocating keeping players against their will, just the idea that we are going to be some kind of conveyor belt stop off point for young talent.

I would like to see us keep some of that young talent, convince them we are going places - and yes do a Leicester!

I would like to think my vision for The Albion is more in line with Tony Bloom’s then clearly your is of settling for second best...

Of course we'll be a conveyor belt - and quite right too. If White makes the step up to the PL (and I think he will) we'll sell him. For good money, after we've had a couple of great seasons of him playing for us - by which time we'll hopefully have nurtured his successor. Haydon Roberts anyone?

I don't think for a minute that is 'settling for second best" - we are never going to compete financially with the likes of Citeh, United, Chelski, etc.

Apart from mentioning Leicester selling Maguire, you keep ignoring them.

Why can’t we be the new Leicester, rather than attempt to match City, United, Liverpool, etc...

I’m wondering how the conversation from the club went with Tariq Lamptey - “come and join us young man, and you never know you might sign for a Top 6 club one day, like Chelsea”?

I reckom it went more like, "Sign for us and you'll get a good bit of gme time. If you have a couple of great seasons and someone comes in with big bucks for you, we won't stand in your way". That would swing it for me, if I was lucky enough to be in young Lamptey's position.

As for "Why can’t we be the new Leicester?" - maybe one day, but just consider how many years Leicester have been in the top flight compared to us. Years more PL money too - it makes a hell of a difference.

So nobody then...

No, you're just being argumentative! Like I said, Albion players that are good enough to be desired by those considerably further up the food chain are rare. 95%+ are not. But when that rarity has happened (like Ulloa) the club has been good to them. Just because Hemed, Jamie Murphy, Spanish Dave whoever, didn't thats becuase they're neither desired by considerably higher clubs or good enough....... it is rare and most players aren't that good or desired. But when it's happened (and your 6 year window is your own construct) Bloom has been reasonable thus far.....

If Chelsea do put in an acceptable bid, I'll bet you £50 to the REMF, Bloom will let him go and not hold him to contract as he has on the rare occasions we've had good enough players before.

You appear to have completely misunderstood point 3! We won't be paying £100M for top 6 ready players. What we will be looking for is young players with ambition looking to make a break into the PL. hhoping to prove themselves and attrct attention from a top 6 club.

If a top 6 club comes in with a decent bid, we make a profit and the player moves on; that's win win. Young talent will see us as a real potential stepping stine to that really mega deal.

If on the other hand we are seen to take the line, "No you bloody can't go to Man. City for £150K a week and play in the Champions League - you're on a £20K a week contract here for another three years. Suck it up" we ain't going to get many takers.

Exactly this.

This is actually by far the biggest indicator. The fact that the Albion haven't included in their marketing the most popular player at the club makes it very reasonable to assume he's on his way.

I salute Vagabond for his detective work and would place my pile of chips on his side of the roulette table.

Thank you my good man [emoji482]

It’s still possible of course a deal won’t be done, but you do have to consider the club didn’t include our captain and most popular player for a reason. Again, it may have been precautionary and things may have changed.

Lewis Dunk to Chelsea ...............

This is not a dig at you at all as that is a good spot and the sort of thing you’d expect to see on a football forum but that is NOT a news story or journalism. Totally embarassing for The Argus.

No offence taken and I completely agree.

I’d actually go as far to say the quality of writing and viewpoints expressed here on NSC, are generally far more engaging then what is contained in the Argus.

The transfer was conceived in January, we’re barely into the third trimester. This one will definitely go full term so you are looking at minimum of end or Sept/beginning of Oct which suits us because other clubs will make us pay top dollar for new talent if they think we’re sitting on a pile of Dunk’s millions.

That explains why I have been craving gherkins and vomiting during the night.

We’re all going to be metaphorically spread eagle in a month or so as a pinstriped scrubs clad and masked Barber steals into our bedrooms in the middle of the night and scalpels out Dunk from our collective souls, caesarean style.

It’s going to hurt, enjoy the gherkins whilst you can.

Point still stands because its a very relevant one for this thread. Bloom fends off bids for his first choice players. And has done since the sale of Ulloa over 6 years ago. Worth reiterating - No ?
Dunk might very well go to Chelsea - he's an exceptional case and player so thank you very much for your REMF offer but looking to Bloom's track record as a reason for that - not sure the sale of Jamie Murphy /Hemed shows you much - will provide you with few pointers.

Leicester’s team the day they won the Premier League cost less than £30 million, so its not all about the big money, more how the right players can be brought together and how they played as a team that season. Also they had spent 10 out of the previous 12 seasons outside the Premier League before the won the title, so again, not all about the Premier League money or experience.

We have thrown away more money on duds in the last few years than that team cost.

Anyway, we will have to agree to disagree, as we clearly have different opinions on this.
