Lewis Dunk possible midfield option?

I'd prefer Hammond back to cover that spot - tall, athletic always wins his defensive headers and a much better distributor than many give him credit for - and he will always get forward and provide a goal threat too in both open play and set piece.

Always been a big fan of Dean Hammond. Would certainly not mind him signing on for another season. Need to clear out some of the midfield dead wood first though. Would not be against selling Crofts to make way for Hammond. He was disappointing last season in many games - although obviously playing in a division higher than the last time he was here may explain this slightly.

I thought Hammond was excellent towards the tail end of the season. People criticise him for his sometimes conservative style but every team needs someone to break things up and keep play ticking over which Hammond does brilliantly IMO, as well as being a threat in the air.

My problem with Hammond is his pace and lack of - especially when reacting to an attacker in possession. He always looks flatfooted and quite easier to get past

LB's role is impossible to fill 'in house'.

Bridcutt is just too good, and took 3 seasons to grow into it.
I doubt Oscar has the luxury of that much time to turn a current player into the absolute fulcrum of everything the team does.

Sorry I have got to disagree with you as Dunk is a hoof it type player and has very little skill on the ball hence the problems that he causes in the defense and could never play in midfield only as a stopper to give the ball to a footballer to play it forward for him.
Exactly,..... Hoof is his middle name.

Could not disagree more.

But even if he WAS the sort of player you describe (which he isn't by the way), ......... would not be beyond Oscar as far as Dunk is concerned.
1) He is an old school hoofball central defender with little or no pace, even at his tender age,.... no good at all in midfield... and 2) Oscar may be able to convert him in time , but we sadly don't have several lifetimes to wait.

LOL at this bensgrandad.

Dunk is the most composed centre back I have ever seen except for Upson for us.

Naturally gifted footballer and keeps it on the floor.

Rio Ferdinand esque.

And his ability to turn on a sixpence cannot be understimated as shown in this clip of the Palace game

I'm sorry but Crofts if actually given a decent run is a far better play than Hammond will ever be.

This. Unfortunately, that clip of Hammond turning is frighteningly accurate!
