[Albion] Lewes v Albion U23s, Sussex Senior Cup 2nd Rd, Dripping Pan, tonight 7:45pm

Albion U-23s begin their defence of the Sussex Senior Cup this evening when they travel to the Dripping Pan to face Bostik Premier Division Lewes FC.

Lewes are managed by former Albion forward Darren Freeman and their squad includes a couple of former Albion players in the shape of Lewis Dunk's old scholarship colleague Leon Redwood and Steve Brinkhurst. Charlie Coppola was in the Albion youth system (and was an unused substitute for the Albion U-18s during his U-15 schoolboy season, no less). Other young members of the Rooks' squad who may get a run-out include former Albion academy lads Alfie Headland, Ross Barclay (no, not that one) and Dylan Gifford.

In recent seasons, Albion have usually selected a younger side for matches in this competition so there may be a number of changes from the usual line-up.

I would have gone but £12 is a bit steep. Concessions are cheaper but I can't see what age concessions kick in for oldies like me.

A younger line-up, as was to be expected. Joe Tomlinson (who is on loan at Bognor) makes his Albion debut, but at right-back rather than his usual left-back position. Josh Kerr makes only his 3rd start of the season. Alex Cochrane gets a game at left-back after being displaced by George Cox's return to fitness. Haydon Roberts gets a start in an unfamiliar midfield position. Ryan Longman makes his first U-23 start of the season (he started in the final against Crawley back in May).

On the bench, 1st-year scholars Roco Rees, Sam Packham and Jack Spong come in; Julien Carre (who joined as a young professional from Angers SCO at the end of the August transfer window and has so far been involved with the U-18s) also receives a call-up.

There are 8 changes from the MK Dons match; Rusk consistently plays a much changed (and younger) side in the Sussex Senior Cup. I'm not saying Connolly (or Gyokeres) won't be involved on Saturday, but tonight's line-up gives us NO indication whether that will be the case or not.
