Cannot find a link from the Argus website, but todays 'hard' copy has an interesting angle on this plan. Apparently our Green councillors claimed that this 4 MILLION POUND scheme would reduce the number of cars using this route into the city by around 10 per cent. It now seems that the councils own experts think that it will be lucky to reduce traffic volume by 1 per cent!!!! Work on this horrendous waste of local tax payers money is due to start in the next few weeks.

This Green Party council is finished at the next election, but unfortunately that will not stop them wasting our money now! :nono:

I completely agree with you. They have cylce laned the whole of the old A27 from the Goldstone reducing the road capacity by 50% apparently the same is planned for Lewes Road. The Greens are a disaster for this city. I cant f***ing cylce to haywards heath or afford the train fairs to get to work, they need to wake up and stoping living in cloud cuckoo land!

I'll point it out now as our resident Green supporter will do so otherwise - the scheme money was applied for by the Tories when in power and has / had cross party support.

That said it's a stupid scheme and everywhere the council have reduced road space for cars has caused tailbacks thus increasing congestion and pollution. There's nothing to suggest this won't do the same.

If that's the case, and their own advisors now say it won't work, why won't they stop and cancel or reconsider the project?

Loving the fact that an 'arse end of Hangleton' resident (five miles away) should be lecturing Lewes Road residents and near-residents on how their neighbourhood should operate.

There are other things that wellquickwoody is wrong about too, but they've been stated on here so often, it becomes a bore repeating them.

It will be an absolute nightmare - I expect more than one 'traffic chaos' headline to be used as soon as they start

Just relaying the story from the local paper. At face value it would seem our green councillors have misled the local electorate?

I'm not sure I can see anything in my post that suggests I'm lecturing locals - I've just said that, IMO, reducing road space hasn't proven to work elsewhere in the city. I find the idea that other people in the city can't comment on a scheme within that city rather bizarre ? Using that logic anyone who didn't live in Withdean had no right to "lecture" them on their opposition to the Albion using "their" local community for football matches. Nor indeed should we have "lectured" Falmer residents about the new ground. Bizarre comment, utterly bizarre. Or is it more like, we can comment if we support the scheme but if we don't and we aren't local then we should shut our mouth ?

You would think they would but I guess politicians ( of any party ) don't like being seen to be wrong.

So you start a thread that is totally bereft of facts and full of your prejudices and then a load of sheep come along and jump on your bandwagon.

As the orginal thread that went on for countless pages, the junction is dangerous to both pedestrians and cyclists, something needs to be done. The council have written to all local residents who have voted for an option. Driving and cycling around the junction now is dangerous so this should improve things.

I am sure the council will lose votes over lots of issues, but I am glad as voters we have looked outside the traditional parties in this town/city, who have had control for many years and like any controlling faction not done too much...

Also as the orginal thread (cant be bothered to find it) said, this benefits the club as it will make it easier for people to cyle, walk and bus to the Amex something the club needs to encourage. Then if enough of us do this, we can have a boxing day fixture.

The last time this was debated (I apparently have the wrong view according to TLO and the other huggers, as I think it will be a disaster) someone came up with an idea of such stunning simplicity that it really should be tried. Why don't they cone off 1 lane for say a month and see what happens? Simple, effective and will give a good indication of the likely impact. Of course this will never happen as it will not suit the agenda of those who make these decisions, but it really would give people an indication of the impact this scheme is likely to have on traffic flows.

I think the recent works at the bottom of Coldean Lane also give a pretty good indication personally, as suddenly it was taking 30mins plus to reach the bypass from Coombe Rd at rush hour, but as a daily user of this road our opinions clearly are of no consequence...

Why don't you just have a 'we hate the Greens thread' and be done with it, all councils have to do things, like them or not. Enjoy your Monday (argus fuelled) bin fest.
