They do not appear to be intending to set aside any particular sum of money to fund the Judicial Review, but the councillors are being warned that, if the Council loses the case, they will be liable to pay not only their own legal fees, but the legal costs incurred by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister in contesting the case.
In their confidential report to the Cabinet, Lewes District Council's officers have put no figure on the possible costs that might be incurred by the council.
In other words, they are about to gamble with a substantial sum of council tax payers' money.
