Good luck to all four Seagulls Party candidates. Shame no-one's going up against Neighbour and Pepper.

And there appear to be three different Conservative parties! The Conservative Party, David Cameron's Conservatives, and the "Local Conservatives".

I think this follows a Lib Dem trick. Depending on how well they fancy their chances they will bill themselves differently in different places.

The Lib Dems have (had?) a magazine they used to bung through the doors called 'Lib Dem Focus' (*). In areas they had blitzed with these rags they tended to put themselves up as 'Lib Dem Focus Group' candidates - or something similar - thinking that Joe and Janet public would make the link between the mag and the election literature and (assuming they liked the mag's contents) then walk zombie-fied into the booth and make the tick in the requisite box. In other wards where they didn't think they had a fat chance of winning they wouldn't bother with the 'Focus' mag and would just call themselves 'Lib Dems'.

Perhaps the Torys think the punters in Lewes Priory Ward aren't natural Conservatives; but think by putting cuddly Dave's name specifically on the ballot paper they'll get more votes than otherwise. As for Peacehaven and the guy in Newhaven maybe they think they are on a complete loser so don't even try to pretend they are 'local' or that DC will pull them any votes - or maybe they don't want to be associated with him. Only a guess, mind.



(*) I assume the word 'Focus' in this case is purely coincidental and has no connection with a certain Mr Archer!!

Correct - Lib Dems were using Focus decades before Archer came on the scene with Focus DIY.

Am surprised that there are only 4 Seagulls Party candidates standing...but will be interesting to see the results.

Ed Bassford _ - Ringmer & Ouse Valley Ward

Ed, from Firle, has lived in the ward since 1975 and knows it well. He¹s been a member of his local parish council for the last 16 years, two years of which were served as Chairman. Ed was a public transport planner at East Sussex County Council for over 25 years and now manages a community transport operation in Brighton and Hove. He¹s a former government adviser on transport issues affecting disabled people and has also acted as an advisor to the Local Government Association on transport and social exclusion. One of the founder members of The Seagulls Party, Ed is also a member of the Falmer for All Team. He attended every session of the 2005 Public Inquiry and wrote a daily diary of events for the club¹s website and matchday programme.



Mark Jackson _ - Newhaven Denton & Meeching Ward

Mark moved to Newhaven four years ago to work for a local company. Born and brought up in Yorkshire, he moved to Sussex in order to be close to his wife¹s family who have connections with Newhaven going back over 100 years. Mark soon became as fervent an Albion supporter as his wife and although not of local stock, quickly put down roots and became part of the Newhaven community. Living and working in Newhaven, Mark has a feel for the issues that concern local residents and hopes to have a positive effect on those issues by standing for election to the district council.



Roz South _ - Lewes Bridge Ward

Another founder member of the Seagulls Party, Roz first moved to Lewes with her family in 1965 and has rarely strayed far from the town since! A freelance photographer whose images regularly appear in the matchday programme, she has also written the ³Terrace Talk² column for the Sports Argus and edited the fanzine ³Brighton Rockz². A member of the Cliffe Bonfire Society for the last 41 years, she also produces an annual charity pantomime in Lewes and has been very active on the local political scene. Before resuming her photographic career, she spent some years working as a public transport planner and local government review officer for East Sussex County Council and Brighton & Hove City Council and not only knows how local government works, but knows how it should work! And it¹s this experience and knowledge that she hopes to bring to Lewes District Council.



Steve Williams _ - Lewes Priory Ward

Born and educated in Uckfield, Steve trained as a painter/decorator at both Crawley and Brighton Technical Colleges. He now runs his own decorating company operating in Sussex, Surrey, Kent and France. He moved to Lewes 12 years ago, and now lives in the Nevill area of the town. An Albion supporter since he was ten years old, he is determined to see that the next generation of supporters aren¹t denied the chance to benefit from all the advantages that the new stadium will bring. As well as being a committed Albion supporter, Steve is a member of both Cliffe and South Street Bonfire societies. He deplores the money that Lewes District Council has wasted opposing the stadium at Falmer and would like to see local residents being given more opportunities to influence the work of the council.

Some do & I would urge voters in Lewes Priory to vote for Steve AND Ruth O'Keefe (who does not support the Lib Dem NIMBY tactics).

Can someone in the know explain why we are not putting anyone up against Pepper in the Kingston Ward, that includes Falmer.

I would have thought it would be interesting to see if we could take some of her votes away especially as there is a "Green" standing, or is the "Green" standing on a pro stadium ticket anyway?
