If today my beloved Scotland took on The Auld Enemy over two legs - one at Hampden one at Wembley - who do you honestly think would triumph?

Let's try and avoid the usual diatribe - sensible answers

The second leg wouldn't be very good, two matches in one day, and all that travelling.

The answer of course depends largely on who was managing England. If it was someone competent, than England.

I would say Scotland.

At the moment they have one thing that the England team doesn't - passion.

That is precisely what I would like to happen when the new England manager takes over, friendly games against Scotland and Northern Ireland, just to show the players what it is like to play with passion, commitment and belief in yourselves...at present England can't light a candle to those two teams.

:DSo why though will the FA not even contemplate a Home Nations - surely it can only be a good thing to be playing friendlies - not necessarily against quality sides but at least agianst sides who do care about the result.

For instance - who remembers the firneldies against the likes of Mexico - easy 4-0 win aginst a side that travelled from half way to the Moon to play in a game that they cared not a fig for.

The list is endless - now it pains me to say this but clearly England are still 'the team to beat' for the likes of Scotland, Wales etc - so would it not make sense to try and prepare England sides for qualifying campaigns on the back of games that will have an element of intensity to them?

Or are you just a bunch o wee cowards??

...its not a trouncing from the Scots that the FA are fearful of, but the rampaging hordes of England fans pissed up on 80 Shillings laying waste Hampden Park, thus giving FIFA the perfect excuse to ban us from international competition.

England would win over two legs, I think. If we get Capello then we'd win both legs 1-0 which would do nicely thankyouverymuch.

I can't imagine of any contest more dull than a meaningless two legged affair with the jocks.

Not much passion for that one down here, I'd wager.

As neither team has a manager it would be rather pointless. If Mcleish had stayed though Scotland would beat a managerless or even McLaren England over two legs.

If you'd played it a few months ago with the previous managers (McCleish and McClaren) then probably Scotland.

Now - dunno. And at the moment - don't care.

I understand the opinions on the passion as Scotland have that in buckets England cant even spell it but......
This will be hustle bustle no real skill crash bang football which might actually suit England with their lack of technique. Remember also that Scotland produce their best football against the bigger nations would they be motivated against a very average England team.

A draw in Scotland after the sweaties take the lead but England to win comfortably at Wembley ala Russia, then the journos can laud it that England are a great team destined to win the World Cup (fat chance).
