You won't give up, will you. The reason why City are doing this is because they've comfortably outspent all other teams for the last six to eight years. Once you've got that strong a squad, and that much talent, then you can unleash it. It also helps to have Yaya Toure, who really gets around.
As indicated in my original post, if City play 4-4-2 in the Champions League, they won't last long.
Why do Bayern (Champions League holders), Real Madrid and Barcelona (arguably the best clubs in the world at the moment), Mourinho, etc, etc avoid 4-4-2 like the plague? Because it's outdated, and too rigid.

I haven't watched man city much and certainly only highlights but do they particularly play 442. Silva is often deployed either up with the strikers or just behind so if anything a 4222 but also fairly close to 433 but if I'm wrong then fair enough.

Given the resources and talent at their disposal I think Man City could play any formation and bulldoze the opposition. They're so superior their system is irrelevant.

When city are in their free scoring form then they are more than likely playing 424 rather than 442

Even 4-4-2 ends up more like a 4-5-1 when your defending, but then again according to some people on here we're supposed to have players who can clear the ball from defence then dash up front to get on the end it and score.

I think this is exactly the point. This happens more often than not at home.

To be fair although we sat back a bit too much at the end this is probably understandable given the run we have been on. The players probably were nervous and determined not to give away the lead so subconciously dropped back half a yard. It happens all the time to teams 1-0 up with 10 to play. Frustrating yes, but understandable.

Really Are you serious that its about results and nothing else? - i Can take on board its not always going to entertaining and you can accept the odd few games here and there, however to continually set up like an away side at home and grind teams into submission just won't work. Look at the table.. its not working, we are no where near the play offs - which for a squad like ours is under acheiving.

I think we're very close to being a top side. Unfortunately Oscar doesn't seen to know his best midfield.....but who does? I thought both Orlandi and Stephens were pretty average today, and the only certainty is that Ince is the holding midfielder for the future.
At home, 4-3-3 is good if you bomb on, which we did today, but we looked shapeless at times, especially early in the second half.
We're not good enough for the Premiership, I'm not sure we're good enough for the play-offs this year, however I can see us improving for the next 2-3 months and who knows.
What I do think is we're still progressing, without the media whore Poyet, and we will get stronger and youth will play a big part in it, which under Poyet never happened.

I agree, that's exactly what I'm saying. Injuries and new players means Oscar is still experimenting. Do any of us really think we know best midfield 3/4? Bit of a trial and error at the moment, so we have to expect varying performances. But if we can get the midfield right I think we'll click
