Back up keeper must be a tough gig and difficult for player and club to get the right individual………..he seems ideal. Right temperament for it, seemingly great around the squad and good enough when called upon.
Unfortunately Steele is happy to play a bit part and earn decent money for sitting on the bench. No where good enough to challenge Sanchez and would be a disaster if he had to play a few games back to back!
The problem is if you bring someone as good as Sanchez, then how do you get them to sign, what do you say to Sanchez and what do you do after 6 months when the others had enough not playing.Unfortunately Steele is happy to play a bit part and earn decent money for sitting on the bench. No where good enough to challenge Sanchez and would be a disaster if he had to play a few games back to back!
So you would be happy with Steele till tje end of the season if Sanchez got a long term injury!I think that’s an overly harsh view. You can’t be certain that he IS happy to play a bit part. He might believe that he’s good enough for the number one spot, we just don’t know. As others have said though, and if you listen to Ben Foster’s podcast too, being a back-up goalkeeper is a specialist role in itself. You’ve got to be a cheerleader, a workhorse in training and match day warm-ups, as well as having an excellent temperament. If RDZ and co have decided that JS is the best man for that job then I trust them totally.
Understand that but would worry if Steele had to play a string of games. As i said great No2 until he needs to play! The problem is if you bring someone as good as Sanchez, then how do you get them to sign, what do you say to Sanchez and what do you do after 6 months when the others had enough not playing.
You can tell by social media Steele appears to be a popular member of the squad l
But how do you sign someone as good as Sanchez without unsettling him, bringing someone new in with no guarantee of game time.Understand that but would worry if Steele had to play a string of games. As i said great No2 until he needs to play!
Sanchez needs proper competition
Oh not this crap againSanchez needs proper competition
So you would be happy with Steele till tje end of the season if Sanchez got a long term injury!
If he wanted to be a number one he would not have signed a new contract.
Seems like a very pleasant lad and i’m sure he is a great No2 right up to the point he has to come on and then play for a few games. Maybe he and the club have plans for him on the coaching side in the future!
Absolute bullshitUnfortunately Steele is happy to play a bit part and earn decent money for sitting on the bench. No where good enough to challenge Sanchez and would be a disaster if he had to play a few games back to back!
He knows how to save penalties.Let’s just hope you are all right and if needed, Steele will be a worthy replacement. I happen to think he won’t be but that‘s what an opinion is!
No, and it has very rarely been the case, and when it is the case, it usually turns into shit.Does a single Premier League side have two keepers who are vying for the shirt and get swapped in and out based on form?
The PL stats has 18 keepers who are ever-present or all-but-ever-present (eg Martinez missed a game or two due to World Cup winning celebrations).
The two clubs who don't fit this are Chelsea and Bournemouth.
I know Mendy has been injured at Chelsea, but Potter does seem to be more keen on Kepa anyway. I don't know enough about the Bournemouth keepers to know if they are genuinely competing for the shirt week in, week out.

Bollocks.Unfortunately Steele is happy to play a bit part and earn decent money for sitting on the bench. No where good enough to challenge Sanchez and would be a disaster if he had to play a few games back to back!
He is doing a fine job as a match day replacement should he be needed. Rest of the season? - I agree he would probably do OK. Could get better, but how many £million do you think we should spend for that?I think that’s an overly harsh view. You can’t be certain that he IS happy to play a bit part. So much of the goalkeeper role is about psychology. The last thing you want is a goalie who feels "if I make the slightest of mistakes, the bloke on the bench will take my job".
