I'm not sure either would cut it at the top. They're great at what they do but top teams don't require defenders to defend in that way and they would be found out. Somewhere like Everton would most likely be the limit.

Do you really think that our two central defenders will ignore offers which will be far better than we can afford?

Or, should we be looking to improve at centre back? The number of goals we have conceded on the counter of late, in fact for all two seasons in the prem, if we're going to keep playing a system that leaves us vulnerable there could perhaps do with quicker CB's with a better tackle?

Duffy and Dunk have been our stand out players in the Prem. They are good enough at this level for us but not top 6. We have no worries about them being poached.
No they don't need replacing. It's our weak overrun midfield that is the problem. I also believe we are weak in the fall back areas but have been impressed with Bernado.

We're always going to be weak defensively whilst the team is so negative, it breeds negative energy which manifests itself by players dropping deeper than they need to be. We have no outlets because our wingers have to play as advanced full backs when we don't have the ball and our lonely striker has no chance of being involved in the game with his whole team 20 yards deeper than he is. We have more legs in the team than you realise, they're just not encouraged or allowed (delete as appropriate) to express the more attacking side of their games.

Stephens will spray forward passes when there are options, there just rarely are. Propper is wasted playing so deep and Bissouma probably is as well, he's certainly not lacking in energy and Propper isn't lacking in talent in the final third. We're just not using our players to their full strengths - which is to the benefit of precisely nobody.

Good post. I would add though that we have no/few players that teams have to worry about with the exception of perhaps D&D at corners and free kicks however Duffy is so poor in controlling and directing his headers that he’s not much of a threat.

I think it may have been HWT?? who suggested a short while back that Duffy's inability to direct his headers was because he had a head shaped like a diamond. Anyhow, someone did and it raised a chortle.

Sounds like you're saying Mat is too short to be a genuine asset!
I totally disagree.

He is an asset I just don't believe he's an asset worthy of a Premier League (eye watering stoooopid amount of money) bid.

Talking to an Arsenal fan at work earlier this week and he said during the game there was discussion about how D&D would be great for their defence. Hopefully no offers will come.

This is all very true, and why we still have them now. For about 3-4 years now, I've looked at Dunk and thought he was exactly what Man Utd, Liverpool (not anymore), Chelsea and Arsenal have needed. Whether that's seeing him as the new John terry, or Tony Adams, or Steve Bruce, truth is those clubs think they have moved on from that type of player, and can do better. They haven't. they've all needed exactly that, but they'll hang back and sign someone called Phillipe De Leutchan instead, who may never win a tackle, or throw himself in front of a shot, but he can do a Zidane turn on the edge of his own box, and sounds fancy.

Boom! That didn't take long to play out.

Perry Groves has told TalkSPORT that he believes Arsenal should look to sign AFC Bournemouth winger Ryan Fraser, and Brighton centre-backs Shane Duffy and Lewis Dunk...

...“They are better than what Arsenal have. They have fight, they have character, they have heart. They need that sort of player.”

Groves is right. However, Arsenal’s main priority should be centre-backs and both Duffy and Dunk would be excellent additions to the Gunners. Fraser is less needed, given that Arsenal are still strong in attack.

It remains to be seen how much Dunk and Duffy would cost any interested parties,

If D&D HAVE do go, then they should go to Arsenal as a high priced job lot. Adding a credible defence transformed Liverpool under Klopp. Same would happen if Arsenal were to invest in defence. It's always been their soft underbelly in recent years.

It would look really stupid selling them after they've been practically the only two men's first teamers to model the new kits and the club have put out about 50 billion tweets over the last few days either with pictures of them or citing their stats from last season. Really silly indeed. Therefore I can only conclude that they will both be Arsenal players before the end of June.

Isn't that because everyone else has fooked off on holiday, and they were the only two left for modelling duties?
