This is like pulling teeth!
IF he is successful, he is worth more than the fee, obviously. But all signings are gambles, even more so when they are coming from a foreign league and maybe don't even speak English.
I expect him to be a success, as does Poyet no doubt, but if he fails you've poured a million more down the drain than you needed to.
To yourself and others, it's quite clear that nobody bothers to read other people's posts on here. I actually broke that news about Granada on this very forum for example.
Even if I had only seen 20 minutes of him it would have been 20 minutes more than any of you, and if you'd bothered to read my previous posts on the matter (including the one above) you would know that I expect Ulloa to be successful. As a supporter of a team in the same division as Almeria I'm pleased he is no longer with them - and I also said that in a previous post.
I've actually seen Ulloa play live on several occasions (I only said "as recently as..." in my last post). I also saw him in August, when he played at Elche last season and when he played for his previous club Castellon. I've also seen him on Spanish TV many times.
He is NOT worth the money Brighton are paying for the reasons Ive already given. Even though there were La Liga sides interested in him none of them will have wanted to pay a transfer fee because that is the Spanish market right now. At the most they might have got a few hundred thousand, but I doubt any of the clubs that were looking at him would even do that. There has been no auction and even if there had been you would easily have outbid the Spanish teams in both fee and wages. In fact, the closer it got to the end of January without a resolution, the more your hand would have been strengthened. Paying the full asking price straight away is bad business.

Surely this is the point - if it works and his goals get us to the chosen land then the fee will have been fully vindicated. If he flops we get to look stupid. I trust Gus's judgement on this guy and he will be coming to a club with a significant spanish speaking contingent and a city with a significant spanish ex-pat community. My biggest worry is actually how he'll cope with the english weather but if he sat through the game on saturday when it was raining and dark and cold and still wants to come then he knows what he's letting himself in for!!
So to summarise:
- You have seen him a couple of times
- Our scouts have watched him for EIGHTEEN months
- Poyet / Tarricco have their current jobs for a reason
- Why are you not a professional football club manager?
- All of the above makes your point valued more?
There's a clue in the very post you were actually replying toHow do you know it was the full asking price ? http://www.elalmeria.es/article/deportes/1435836/ya/hay/preacuerdo/con/brighton/por/leo/ulloa.html
How do you know we haven't outbid other clubs ? There were no other bids
Who is it you support ?
No need to round on Gordonchas he obviously knows more about ulloa presently than us fans. But as for the transfer being good value or not, maybe that is relative to our 2 different countries. In spain Gordonchas suggests 1.5 million is a huge amount nobody would pay for a league 2 striker, whereas there are very few in the English second tier who sell for much less, so for us the price is normal.
Maybe his suggestion as being over valued is based on what a spanish team would expect for such a fee and not an english one?
Exactly this. Thanks for that, you've restored my faith.

Met Swansea's De Guzman today. Top man. Played v #Ulloa in Spain & amazed he seems set for #bhafc. "Wow. Good enough for the Prem Lge".

I feel the same. I still think he might need a month or two to get back into playing regular football and in a different league, so I hope he isn't judged too quickly.I was just about to post this.
I was excited to see how he does but now I can't bloody wait to see him in the stripes. No pressure or anything though, obviously
